Tennessee athletic director John Currie, who had been leading a disastrous coaching search, has parted ways with the university after meeting with school officials, including chancellor Beverly Davenport, on Friday morning, sources confirmed to ESPN.
Currie flew back earlier Friday to Knoxville after interviewing Washington State coach Mike Leach on Thursday in Los Angeles. University officials instructed Currie not to broker a deal with Leach or anybody else prior to returning to campus, sources told ESPN.

And UT's now former AD had "only" been on the job 8 months...April 1
Currie, previously the athletic director at Kansas State, had been on the job at Tennessee since April 1.

No- Currie was hired last February from Kansas State after Dave Hart retired as Tennessee AD. Gilbert was hired in January.

Just curious, but has Gilbert done anything yet to make you think he's incompetent? I've had plenty of complaints about the past few ADs, but Gilbert hasn't really done anything so far to make me think he's not trying his best. The only thing I've thought was stupid was the Diversity post yesterday, which is basically a whole lot of nothing to sound progressive.

not at all i was incorrect in thinking that he served under the TN AD that was fired is all. It gave me a not so happy feeling. But i stand corrected so all is well.

Gilbert should know that making some long post about diversity is going to go over like a lead balloon with USM fans.

He’s doing OK, I guess. Scheduling deals with Tulane/MSU, Adidas contract, and not renewing Doc’s deal are all positives. They’re about to put video boards in RGC too. His first really big test will be how he deals with the Sadler mess.
