Huffman and Parker have really nice stadiums.

The turf at Lawson Field is what came off Legion Field when the present turf was installed. It is "hand me down" turf.

The financial backing for Lawson Field came from a bond issue passed by the old City Commission in the late 1950s so you can imagine the cost difference for equipment between then and today.

The only reason it even exists today is because a US Steel officer donated USS land and USS provided land grading for the stadium. He also worked out the donation of USS land for the junior college so both are named in his honor.
Lawson field turf was put in brand new 5 years ago.

I would guess it is to drum up support from everyone that isn't the City of Birmingham & figure out a way to do it without them.

The city should build a new stadium, demolish Legion Field, and turn the space into a really nice park with some new housing.

All This! If their intention after all these years of "talking" and collecting revenue is to cram Legion Field down our throats, it's a glaring testament to their impotence.

B'ham has a new young Mayor and some new Council members (including a new Council President) so they have not "been talking for years". While we are in a hurry to get what we want, reality suggests that they need a little time to get on the same page together on many projects, not just a stadium. They might come up with a plan for metro area cooperation on the MPF.
