I think players should finish the year, but I also think the coaches should not be allowed to walk away from their teams before bowl games. Coaches always preach commitment and dedication to the team and then just say bye. Bad examples.

Good for them. They should be thinking of what is best for them. Everyone else does.

Agreed. That being said, I think a player can help their stock quite a bit with a great bowl performance against good competition. Maybe that potential upside isn't worth the injury risk and opportunity cost of not being able to prepare for the draft in private, but it's there.

I think Josh Allen the Wyoming QB may be one of those type of players. He didn't have a great year so a good bowl performance will help his rating.

Posted this a bunch of times relative to people who keep saying expand the playoffs.
If you are a lock for rounds 1-2 why risk playing extra games.

I don't think the playoffs folks would skip but the ones that think losers of 1st round playoff games would go to play a bowl game are complete morons. Last year folks was just the tip of the iceberg.

Can't think of a single good reason why a player like Williams who is pretty sure of going in the first three rounds of the NFL draft would need to play in the Cactus Bowl or the Zaxby's Heart of Dallas Bowl.

Agreed. Every game not in the playoffs after the season is irrelevant and needless. The risk is wholly assumed by the players, who don't make a dime. And if they get hurt, stand to lose quite a bit of change from their future employers.

I agree...this stiffing of the bowls by pro-bound players only gets bigger and more common until kids get paid or the playoff expands.

I'm looking at two or three guys at Penn State right now who don't have much to play for at that school who are about to get taken care of quite well in the pros. I really hope Saquon sits it out (I still think he already checked out after the Ohio State game)...it's the kind of player on the right kind of team (just on the outside of the playoff, forcing the real conversation about how useless the next-best bowls are) to force a badly needed, if not overdue discussion and accountability check. And I would be extremely impressed if the coach urged him to do so and publicly supported and broadcasted that.

Exactly. There is nothing he could do there in one game that would change NFL scouts' opinion of his value. He could only damage his pro stock.
