Trouble in Portlandia
Columbia Sportswear may close Portland office over death threats, public defecation by homeless people
Quote:Columbia Sportswear may be the next business to flee downtown Portland after a series of frightening encounters with the city's homeless population, including car break-ins, human waste dumped by the office's front door and threats to its employees.
In an op-ed piece published earlier this month by The Oregonian, Columbia Sportswear President and CEO Tim Boyle said he is concerned he made a mistake when he opened a headquarters for the company’s Sorel footwear brand downtown, calling the situation "outrageous and unacceptable."
"In fact, I am so concerned about the safety of our employees at the Sorel headquarters that we are taking the next 90 days to re-evaluate our location decision," Boyle wrote.
Very simple solution for leftist Portland and its citizens: use your faith in socialism to take a significant percentage of business profits and give that money to the homeless.
If you preach wealth redistribution then you need to practice it before asking others to do what you won't do.

Boyle told The Oregonian he met with Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler to discuss his concerns and, while he is a "big fan" of the mayor, the decision on whether the Sorel office will stay or go is about the "well-being of our employees."
If you are a big fan of Wheeler's, then death threats from the homeless and people crapping on your doorstep is only the beginning.

RE: Trouble in Portlandia
So there's a particular area that's a problem. Its not the whole city either
When I lived in San Diego, I had to run a gauntlet of extremely aggressive, drunk, and menacing homeless persons in the four block area between my carpark and office. The problem had a known genesis....some religious group feeding drunk homeless people next to the carpark. They'd serve them food, then they'd leave as we're going to work and use the restroom all over the place and harass people.
In Houston, the Mayor tried to stop religious and other groups from feeding people in non-approved areas. But in Houston, it was the right wing that threw a fit over those regulations.
Its not a right wing or left wing issue.

There is a concern like this in Minneapolis by Target Field. There is a combination Salvation Army and Greyhound bus stop that focuses a lot of problems in a small area that impacts disproportionately "tourists" to the city.

Technically, I didn't say it was a left or right wing issue. I made a suggestion for leftist Portland to try to resolve the problem using leftist strategy.

Is there even a left wing strategy going on. Here in Houston, its the far right wing that wants to encourage the homeless to live in certain areas by providing free stuff.

So you would just let them starve on the streets?

Tom is upset that the evil Christian conservatives want to feed homeless people? Or he is just upset that they are doing it in a place that inconveniences him?
Not in my backyard, right Tom?
