Would be cool but I'm afraid we're sitting our asses as home. It's a tradition as old as time. We play on the moon or we sit on the couch.

We aren't going to a bowl.

NO Bowl - UNT
Armed Forces - USM
New Mexico- UTSA
I-Bowl - Tech

Seems like a reasonable setup. You could easily swap a few of those around and come out ok though. UNT and Tech would be a decent swap with both coming out OK.

UTSA should have some leverage seeing they played in the NM bowl last year.

I didn't take that into account. Doubtful that they send UTSA back to New Mexico then. Maybe:
NO- UNT
AF- UTSA
I- bowl: USM
New Mexico: Tech

USM went to the New Orleans Bowl in back to back years twice (2004-05, and 2007-08) so unless things have changed that might not be a factor for UTSA especially if they had good attendance there last year

USF is trying for a P5 opponent somewhere--probably the Military Bowl.
I can see why USF wants that, but really, if FAU is 10-3 and C-USA's Champion with a 9-game W streak and Kiffen on the sidelines, a matchup with them (esp. in Florida) will get USF a lot of attention/viewers.

Of course, then the problem is, you have to deal with them on the field...

This. The World Wide Leader may be losing ground but they aren't quite dead yet.

Must be nice for the west to have so many bowls tied to the league that are close by.

When do the airport meetings happen again?

It matters as far as reputation goes...something USM has been trying to restore since '12. That would give us 2 consecutive years we've gotten P5 scalps.

What people DON'T care about it beating a sun belt team (again) in the nola bowl. It's really sad and telling when our fans care more about a trip to New Orleans than trying to improve our football teams perception/credibility.

Winning vs a P5 (regardless of their record) > Winning vs a Sun Belt team

What yo should have said was...

to us fan that are going to sit at home and watch on TV playing a P5 is more important. Or to us fans that only want to complain and never invest in the program with their dollars...like being a season ticket holder (which you are not...at least going by your posting complaining about the price of a UK ticket). Playing a P5 is more important.

To those that actually like going to games and investing the time and money to do just that. Playing close to home matters. Only a damn fool would think any fans other than a diehard of that team is going to care or remember who S. Miss loss to or beat.

I'm about as diehard as it comes and I honestly couldn't tell you who S. Miss played year before last and got hammered. I do recall it was one of those 6-6 P5 schools. But not who.

Hell why aren't you on the ACC board begging fans, that have zero control on anything...to let S. Miss join them?

If it really mattered....

22,761 showed up vs UK in the first game of the season.
27,905 showed up vs Troy in the 2nd game of the 2016 season.

I've been a season tix holder every year since '08. I also buy a good bit of single-game tix for friends/family because I work for the university. And for the record, I've been to every bowl game USM has played in since '97 (with the exception of the Humanitarian Bowl in '98, St. Petersburg Bowl in '10, and Hawaii Bowl in '11) so please don't question my loyalty to USM football. I'm also fully aware of how cheap many casual walk up USM fans can be. That being said, let's be crystal clear about this...you would rather your team play a sun belt team OVER a P5 team so long as its closer in proximity???????? That is small time thinking.

What part of "CUSA has zero credibility in the football world" don't some of y'all understand? CUSA needs as many bowl games as possible vs P5 schools NOT as many bowl games as possible that our fans can drive to. Sure, its nice to have close bowl games... but our conference has a serious perception issue. We HAVE to start FORCING the college football world to take CUSA seriously you improve our credibility! How do you do that? You beat as many P5 teams as you possibly can! You don't shy away from these games just because you'd rather prefer a close trip that more fans could make. Again, that's small time thinking. If you can't understand this than you're a lost cause.

It's not like Shreveport is in New Mexico. That is not that hard a trip from Miss.

I thought attendance was generally down for most teams this season. Comparing one year to the next is apples and oranges. More to it than who the competition is.

That Washington team beat #20 team 45-10 last game before bowl and only beat Southern Miss 44-31. I wouldn't consider that getting 'hammered'.

Any fan that would rather play a SBC team over a P5 team needs to really think about how much they care about their FB program. No offense to SBC, I'm sure they'd rather play a P5 team than Southern Miss.

And lots of USM fans traveled to Dallas to watch this game, probably as many as went to the NO Bowl the next year to see us play UL Lafayette in a game that ended at midnight. Which did more for our program? I would bet more people watched the HOD Bowl and even though we lost, I think that performance was more impressive than beating the Ragin Cajuns.

NM is 10+ hours away from San Antonio and 13+ away from Shreveport.

How many other eastern bowl opportunities are there for G5's? I wouldn't have any problem trying to get Cure and/or Camellia in the future. The fact is There are more bowls in the west than the east. And most of the eastern bowls are P5.
