Blazer Almanac 11/27
November 27

UAB Football:
Football is 0-2 on this date.

2004 - On this date, the Blazers completed their most successful season in FBS football, up until 2017, that is. The Blazers traveled to Southern Miss and appeared to be on track to win over Southern Miss, who had lost three straight. UAB jumped out to a 14-3 lead, but Southern Miss scored 23 straight points to take a 26-14 lead. UAB scored again late to make the final 26-21 Southern Miss. UAB was 7-4 and headed to their first and only bowl game...until 2017.

2010 - On this date in 2010, UAB lost at Rice 28-23. Rice scored a go ahead touchdown with 44 seconds left to win the game. The Blazers finished the season 4-8.

UAB Basketball

UAB Basketball has played 20 games on this date. They are 15-5

1981 - UAB beat Illinois Benedictine 100-63.
1982 - UAB beat Missouri Kansas City 80-60. This game is notable because UAB scored the very first three point goal in this game. The three point shot was in the experimental stage in the 1982-83 season and the Sun Belt Conference was one of the conferences experimenting. With 6:50 left in the game, Scott Simcik scored the first ever three point basket at the top of the newly installed arc.

1987 - UAB defeated SW Texas State 72-67 in a return trip to the Great Alaska Shootout.

1991 - UAB defeated Mississippi Valley State 93-62.
1992 - Yet another trip to the Great Alaskan shootout. In the second round, UAB beat Dayton 80-67.

1993 - UAB beat Texas Arlington 68-61 in the first game with a 35 second shot clock, which had been shortened from 45 seconds.

1994 -UAB beat Northeastern Louisiana, now called Louisiana Monroe, by the score of 85-67.

1996 - UAB defeated Florida A&M 83-50.
1999 - UAB defeated Georgia Southern 84-77.
2001 - UAB beat Bradley 82-50
2002 - UAB traveled to Las Vegas and lost to UNLV 84-75. This was Mike Anderson's first loss as the Blazer coach, and the first loss of his career.

2004 - UAB defeated VCU 79-55. The Blazers jumped out to a 17-0 lead to open the game and at one point the score was 26-2. The half time score was 50-25. However, it was discovered at half time that the first half had been played with a smaller women's basketball.

2005 - UAB defeated South Carolina State 79-48.
2007 - UAB won in overtime at Louisiana Lafayette 78-72. UAB was led by Walter Sharpe with 23 points and Robert Vaden with 19. The Ragin' Cajuns were led by future Blazer Elijah Millsap with 26 points.

2011 - There have been some big Blazer blowouts on this date, but unfortunately, there is 2011. On this date in 2011, UAB lost at home to UT Martin, 59-54. The game would be one of only 4 games UT Martin would win that season.

2012 - UAB won at Troy 75-55
2013 - UAB beat Florida A&M 85-73
2014 - UAB lost 56-47 to Florida in the second game of the Battle 4 Atlantis.
2015 - UAB lost to Illinois 72-56 in the Emerald Coast Classic.
2016 - UAB lost to Saint Mary's 76-63.

Blazer Birthdays
Born today in 1965 is Chris Thomas. Thomas played sparingly for UAB from 1985 to 1987. He played six games in 1985-86 and was a medical redshirt. He returned the next year but only played 11 games.

RE: Blazer Almanac 11/27
Interesting. I was just thinking of Chris Thomas this morning on the way to work.

I went to Gene Bartow's camp for 2 summers.

1 of the summers I was on Alan Ogg's 3x3 team and 1 of the 2 I was on Chris Thomas 2x2 team I think.

With that said, his birth year is a couple before mine for some reason.

I was among the youngest in my grade though.
