RE: Coaching Candidates
This isn't a surprise, but according to that article, six of the nine lowest paid assistants in the MAC are at KSU.

RE: Coaching Candidates
Scott Shafer should be highly considered. WMU DC (MAC experience)/ Syracuse HC -now Middle Tenn DC $300k per yr. I think having experience/control of entire program as HC is important vs OC/DC at B10/B12 etc. But we need to at least commit to minor upgrades @ IPF to get potential coached attention? IPF still has "old school turf "- not even field turf??

RE: Coaching Candidates
Here are 2 names we should consider...Will Hall was HC at West Georgia and West Alabama for a combined record of 56-20 at the D2 level, left to be with former boss @ Louisiana–Lafayette Mark Hudspeth, who was fired last week. Would be a good opportunity to cut his teeth at the D1 level.

The other person is Chris Brown @ Fort Hays State with a record of 50-30, also D2 coach that might be willing to move up...
Vince Kehres at Mount Union is not a bad move either...

I would have at least took the old stuff and put it in the IPF, lol!

I would predict no and no.

I know it was wishful thinking.

RE: Coaching Candidates
If anyone needs something to do tonight JMU vs Weber St is on tonight at 7pm on ESPN2. Weber State's coach Jay Hill has been there 4 years and has increased his wins each year but has stayed in Utah his whole career. I don't think he would be an option for Kent since he has no clear ties to the Ohio region.

Out of all fbs jobs 3 openings left. Kent being one. Reports earlier this week said it would "heat up" this week. Its the opposite. Whats the big secret? Or worse is there none. This admin and whoever is in authority refuses to get it done! Why? Idk money? Lack of willingness to actually invest and do what is right?

You could hope that it's quiet because your AD is waiting on Mike Houston (James Madison) to finish his playoff run before announcing him as your new coach.

JMU's football budget might be double what ours is. That would be like leaving your job at Dorsia for the drive thru job at McDonald's.

More like no one wants this job and who would blame them.

Yea maybe that is the case. Maybe several fcs schools budgets are more than Kent an fbs school. And why if that is the case. Hopefully someone from the media will start asking the right questions and not except the smoke and mirrors.

Word must be getting out that not many people like working for Joel. There's a very big difference between a leader and a boss. Joel is not a leader.

Dannyb73,

Are search firms really necessary for every coaching hire? I see the value, but I don't think they fit everywhere. I just quickly scoured the internet and see no news/updates of significance over the last 6 days.

I feel like Nielsen knew he was going to let Haynes go before this season even started, so if that was the case, a prepared AD would have an ever evolving list of head coaching candidates for the #1 most important sport under his watch/direction, right?

3 questions remain and have remained for quite some time regarding KSU Football.

Is KSU committed to increasing the assistant coach salary pool for football? If yes, they can attract quality assistants. If no, the constant losing will not change on a consistent basis.

Is KSU committed to investing in facilities?

Is KSU committed to having a successful football program?

I saw Bob Nielson's salary @ University of South Dakota was $255,000 and before that $206,000 @ Western Illinois. Base upon Haynes contract info below, KSU would be a significant financial increase for Nielson.

These were the details of Haynes contract @ KSU:
Base compensation
•2017 guaranteed pay: $405,912
•Total contract pay: $1,920,912
•Contract length: 5 years
•Start date: 12/18/2012
•Last amended: 12/1/2014
•Expires: 6/30/2018

Incentives
•National title bonus: $75,000 for qualifying OR $100,000 for winning
•CFP semifinal win: $50,000
•CFP semifinal appearance: $25,000
•Conference title bonus: $10,000
•Conference regular season division title bonus: $5,000
•Misc athletic-based incentives: $1,000 for each D-IA win after sixth; $10,000 if more than 60% roster is from Ohio; also has potential for $5,000 in ticket sale bonuses
•Coach of the year award bonus: $5,000 for MAC Coach of year;
•Academic bonuses: $1,000 for team GPA over 2.5; $2,000 more for GPA over 2.75; $5,000 more for GPA over 3.00.
Other Perks
•Miscellaneous perks: an extra seat on team charter to away games.
•Buyout if coach leaves for another coaching job: $430,080

Riley returned to Oregon State as assistant head coach.

Might be wishful thinking, since his base salary is $375,000 and he just signed a contract extension in January 2017.
