My only grip about the bowl game in Mobile is the stadium.
Fixed for accuracy.
stAte has been to Mobile, Orlando and New Orleans. How would ya'll rank the bowls?
I've been to all 3. I have to say Orlando was my favorite with Mobile a very close 2nd. NO was 3rd.
1. Orlando - is just a fun place to visit, the stadium is nice, the festivities on game day were nice, great weather and CBS did an awesome job producing the game on TV. If you have the time and money can't beat it to hang around a while. I know our players loved it because they got to go to one of the amusement parks one day, etc.
2. Mobile - is another great destination if your team travels well and takes over downtown like ours did. Lots of good food, lots of sight-seeing, beaches and shopping close by and the Mardis Gras parade for the bowl is lots of fun...if you travel well. We had a ton of fans along the parade route...just a cool experience. On the down side the stadium is not that nice, the neighborhood is kind of spooky, and the date sucks now. Back when it was in January right before the National Championship it was in a good spot calendar wise.
3. NO - Great town for sight-seeing and eating...no doubt! I just think the fans get spread out too thin around NO (Mobile has a tighter feel and your run into more fans), and the superdome has an sterile feel to it...feels cavernous...nice temps but sound is lost too much. We played La Tech and both sides had decent crowds but it's hard to explain...the energy level in the stadium was just not there....could be because we lost. UL definitely brings bigger, rowdier crowds because they are right down the road and I'm sure their fan experiences were better.
I'm splitting hairs here of course and winning or losing a bowl game has a huge impact in your "feelings" about a bowl. We won in Orlando and lost in NO so take it for what it's worth. All three are fun destinations and I would happily go back to any of them.
Spooky? Like it's haunted, or it's "spooky"?

Ladd Stadium is NOT in a dangerous neighborhood. It is, however, in a predominantly African American neighborhood that is poor. It is 3 blocks from a nice neighborhood, and 5 blocks from a very nice neighborhood. People WALK to the games all the time. Its not "Fort Apache - the Bronx" for crying out loud. Does anyone know of any fan at a Bowl game or USA game that has been attacked or mugged? BTW, I've also never heard of any problems with anyone paying a neighbor of the stadium 5 bucks to park in their yard. Quite frankly, the fact that the parking is a bid diffuse helps solve traffic problems getting in and out of the area.

Spent an hour plus waiting for a taxi outside Ladd at night. I did not feel unsafe.

That is more of a nonstarter for me than the whole "unsafe" jargon.

I've been to Ladd-Peebles several times. Never felt uncomfortable all about the neighborhood. Always parked inside the fence but that's because I'm not walking any extra steps I don't have to walk. Been uncomfortable INSIDE the stadium every time but that's because it's an old ass stadium with lousy bathrooms, concessions and bleacher seats.

RE: Bowl Selections
The problem with Ladd include: 1. restrooms and concession stands are not good 2. some local youth have caused some problems. I went to all 4 bowls for stAte. one of the times a big fight broke out in the stands and it was non-stAte people. A couple of stAte fans tried to break it up and ended up getting struck. Another time I went, some non-stAte fans wandered into the middle of the stAte crowd and sat down right in front of me. I was fine with that until one of them started lighting up some weed. I tapped him on the shoulder and said "Hey man, not here, go sit over there if you want to hit that" He nodded and he and his buddy moved to the end zone. Finally - 3. No Freakin Jumbotron! At least not when I was there. Has that been addressed?
So maybe the neighborhood around Ladd is a little sketchy and they could use a little more care and attention to the visitor side for sure.

Would much rather have our game shown on a channel that people can actually find on their TVs than have fun in Orlando.

What? They have an excellent 42 inch TV in one corner of the stadium at Legion Field South.

RE: Bowl Selections
I know we play USM next year but getting them in a bowl would be nice. Almost had them the other year and I have not forgotten the 1937 Bowl game where USM beat us 7-0. In the 1937 regular season App was not only undefeated but unscored upon. 206 points for App versus 0 points for everyone else. Granted I was not born until 32 years later but I still remember and still want USM in a bowl for payback.

I was at the 1937 game. Lots of hitting. Little passing,

Word I got for App is that if stAte wins, App is to NO. If Troy wins, App is most likely to Mobile with a very small chance at Orlando.

I know that AState requested Mobile not pick us. We were likely Montgomery bound win or lose.

Mobile tends to pick the best team available so Ark St is unlikely to land there.

I think the Rockets would be fine playing Troy in New Orleans. ESPN make it happen!

Toledo is basically Arkansas State on steroids. They don't make mistakes.
