They want Sumlin. Of all the job openings this one scares me the least.

Timing is odd. Arizona State fires their coach after the contract negotiations between Bowen and Norvell became official.

Wonder if Arizona State is talking to Norvell.

stupid decision for Frost. Nebraska is not the job it once was. Florida is a much better job.

I find it surprising that the Nebraska AD would openly discuss Frost or any coaching candidate by name in a public/press setting.
Imagine if another school did that with Norvell.

Dennis Dodd from CBS just said Kevin Sumlin, Derek Mason and Mike Norvell are the names he’s heard for ASU Opening...

More rumors coming out that frost and Nebraska is a done deal.

Doesn't seem likely for Norvell. You don't generally hire a protege of the coach you just fired. The AD has NFL connections so the hire may come from there. Sure is a lot of jobs open though.

I think Kevin Sumlin fits Arizona State. I’m not so sure Norvell would want to step in there right after his mentor and the man who has him in his will just got fired.

you don't think ASU will go after the protege of the guy they just fired?

I genuinely do not think Norvell will be interested in Arizona State. They are Arkansas of the Pac 12. Why would he not just take the Arkansas job and stay close to family? I see no more upside in ASU than Arkansas and allegedly Arkansas and Norvell have passed on one another...

Sure they may go after him but I doubt he would jump for it considering his mentor got canned, just saying weird optics.

Doesn't seem logical but who knows.

I agree with this. I think maybe, out of respect to Graham, that MN would not want to step in for this old coach. Otherwise MN would be interested in that job. who knows.

RE: Arizona State now open
I dont see AzState being in the mix for Norvell. AzState wants a coach who can compete for Pac Titles, but only pay them middle of the conference rates. Norvell has an easier shot making a playoff game at Memphis, for likely more pay, than dealing with the stress of unrealistic results at AzState.

If we lose some position coaches, we could backfill with some prior ASU staff.

Doesn't seem logical but who knows.

If you fire somebody its apparent that you want to go in another direction. So, why would you hire a protege in that situation? Now, if a well liked coach gets hired away, then harvesting from the same tree seems more logical. While driving home, ESPN radio seems to think it'll be the A&M coach...that they are currently working on a buyout. TIFWIW

I do not think Norvell takes the ASU job without the blessing of his mentor and close friend. Even with the blessing, it would be awkward taking the job. My gut saids ASU is a no go.
