If true, lol.

Yep, Ray Anderson. And Herm's agent after Anderson also now works for Arizona State.

Herm not knowing the Sun Devil nickname in his introductory press conference is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. When he's fired after going around 3-9 and 1-8 in conference over the next 3 or 4 years, they will play that with the 'maybe we should have known there was a problem' commentary.

That's him.

LOL. Even Phil Bennett wouldve been a better HC hire at ASU than Edwards.

No he wouldn't be.

I'm going to easy on the guy because he lost his wife to a freak accident when he was at KSU, leaving him as a single parent with three kids, so I'll go ahead and say the whole 'family' thing is warranted.

But not only did he not work out at SMU he was clearly the weak link on a Baylor team that brought any thug they could find to
field a team. Guy went ahead played a player that six - count them, six - women accusing him of raping them. I'm pretty sure the kid is in jail now. Anyway, he played whatever trash he could find and still couldn't hold anyone under four touchdowns.

ASU and Herm have dodged a bullet. Edwards has the chance to use what should be extensive coaching ties to bring in his own staff. That's a good thing.

Why is Herm a bad hire and Jon Gruden a good one?

Lovie Smith was 2-10 at Illinois, and 0-9 in conference, he seems to be recruiting a bit better than the last guy, but 2-10 sucks, they even lost to Rutgers at home.

Hiring a washed up NFL guy doesn't seem to be the way to go.

Especially NFL guys(Edwards and Gruden) who havent coached football in over a decade.

And Lovie was a much better, and more recent, NFL coach than Herm was.

At least Lovie had a winning record as an NFL coach, went to a Superbowl, was an NFL HC the season before taking over Illinois, and presumably knew the mascot was an indian.

Herm was 54-74 in the NFL, hasn't coached in 10 years, and is a devout Christian who is wary of the devil.

Strange hire.

Who was the NFL assistant we almost hired instead of Porter?

I think Gruden would be a bad hire too.

UT would have renamed Neyland Stadium to get him to Knoxville. They would have burned it down had they hired Herm Edwards.

UT fans arent known for their high levels of rationality when it comes to football coaching hires.

Yup. He was the DB coach with the Redskins. Ended up being the DC with the Titans at some point.

Yeah.

I just wanted to kick Phil Bennett while he was down for being a douche bag.

One of the pods I listened to discussed Gruden. Said the UT Prez asked the AD, Currie, why he wasn't shutting down the Gruden talk since they knew early on that Gruden was not interested. But Currie said he was fine with the Grumors, because that allowed him to conduct his interviews in secret.

I love it, but UT really was unlucky. Currie had his top 2 plus one backup - Frost and Mullen, then Schiano if UT got neither. Had Mullen set to come to Knoxville to take the job that Sunday morning, then Frost surprised everyone and turned down Florida. The rest is history.

Me too. Young African American Memphis grad who could recruit. Forgot the most important part, the actual coaching.

His hiring also makes me never trust what other coaches say to get their guys promoted. Les Miles could not have been more complimentary towards LP, said he had never had an assistant coach like Larry Porter.

Yeah, for good or for bad Les is known for backing his assistants when it comes to them having opportunities. The big tell on Porter was that he had no coordinator experience - making the jump from position coach to Head Coach is always a bad sign.

I'll say this - I played at SMU when Jerry Gray coached there and I was pulling hard for him to get the job and was sorry when he didn't. If you take a look at his resume it's outstanding - a few successful coordinator positions and was an assistant HC at Texas under Mack Brown, along with some NFL experience. Great coach and a good person. I even mentioned his name a few times for SMU when their HC positions became available. I am still hopeful someone gives him a short as a HC.
