IPFW will change color scheme when it splits into PFW and IUFW
Next year, IPFW will split into its two namesake schools, PFW and IUFW. PFW will retain the DI status, the mastodons nickname, but will change its colors to Purdue's black and gold. IUFW hasn't announced what it's athletic programs will be, but it would be much smaller than PFW and not DI.

They used to share a campus, with different colleges controlled by IU or PU. IU and PU will split it based on the colleges, but IU only has a Health Services college.

I always find joint campuses or joint athletic programs odd. I understand the purpose and reasons behind them, but they’re just an odd animal.
Regarding colors and mascots, my personal preference is for university system uniformity. For example, many (or all, not sure) of the Penn St branch universities are called the Nittany Lions and use the same or similar logo as the main campus. Every University of Texas branch campus uses burnt orange as a primary color.

Fun fact: Wright State in Dayton was initially a branch of Miami and OSU, though a few years later they gained their independence as enrollment grew with Baby Boomers reaching college age.

To be fair, none of those Penn State locations compete at the D-1 level, and I suspect the naming policy is to build the right kind of football fans more than anything else. I strongly doubt the PSU system would allow Altoona to compete in America East as the PSUa Nittany Lions.

Good move. Not surprised.

Probably so. They might follow the Texas method with UT-Arlington, UTEP, UTSA, and UTRGV by using the Penn St blue along with its own unique identity.

RE: IPFW will change color scheme when it splits into PFW and IUFW
Seems to me that there will be only one athletic program, per
https://www.iufw.edu/doc/1612-ipfw-agree...sible.docx
"H. ATHLETICS.
1. The Universities desire to maintain and continue to allow both IU and Purdue student athletes enrolled at the Fort Wayne campus to participate and compete within a single National Collegiate Athletic Association (“NCAA”) Division I athletic program.
2. The Universities covenant and agree to use their best efforts to seek and obtain all necessary consents, approvals and waivers from the NCAA to permit intercollegiate student-athletes pursing a degree from IU to retain and maintain their eligibility to participate and compete on their intercollegiate sport team upon being admitted into the applicable school, college or division within an Indiana Academic Mission."
This fits in with the context of the larger agreement, in which all campus programs except those related to the health studies are handled by PFW, including general studies.

I don't really get the reasoning behind the color change. Fort Wayne's a fairly successful D1 program. This has to be a little humiliating to the school itself and its alums.
