Just suggesting that they come back a day earlier ... they're going to be home in three weeks anyway for Christmas.
And ... yes ... if it takes making the Pep Band a credit course ... so be it.
Seems to me that this should have happened a long time ago. Why wouldnt it be for credit...equivalent to a lab, one credit per semester? This would also help with funding music selection, travel etc.
There are string ensembles in the music department that offer 1 or 2 credits per semester for participation. Makes sense that offering this for pep band participation would help it grow. Maybe it has something to do with the lack of a faculty leader?
On another note, the Athletic Department is offering a free "stadium cup" for all students who attend 4 out of 6 home games (I believe this includes men's and women's games) during a 3 week period in February, likely our most crucial stretch of conference play for both teams. There was a point in time when there were ~20 in my kitchen cabinet at home from just sitting on my ass for 5 minutes after games ended and picking up what was left around me in Zable and Kaplan. Would it make them go from black to red if they offered something of actual value as a promotion?
Do they not still do Tribe jerseys? That was always the "big prize" when I was a student. But even otherwise they had cool t-shirts and hats and stuff. It seemed like things people actually wanted.

Yeah, I lucked out and got the jersey when I was in the Flex MBA program even though I was a season ticket holder - I'd swipe my student ID and then go to my season ticket seats .
Still unfortunate that football is the only jersey that is sold.

They offered pretty nice looking jerseys last year and the year before, and a tank top and scarves the year before that. This season, the prizes are a fidget spinner for attending games in November, a bucket hat for December/January games, and (drum roll) a stadium concessions cup (!!) for February games. And rumor has it the cups won't even be used! Big stuff ahead for student game day experience!

We don't compete in the same conference, we don't recruit the same student athletes, and we don't attract the same students. The only basis that they can be considered a rival is by geography, and by that basis Norfolk State is a rival, too. And they're just NOT.
I disagree.
They were a rival pre-CAA and post-CAA.
For hoops, they are really the only non-ACC school who fill up the Hall.
Your definition would exclude VMI, VPI, and UVa.
We play them in most sports, and I'll bet we start showing up on their football schedule again in the future.
I suspect you're throwing a dig at ODU fans, but few teams get my blood going at the Hall like ODU.

(4) I was not aware of this Tribe Club reservation deal on the lower levels and the more I think about it the more steamed I get. I belong to the Tribe Club (OK, only silver level) and I hold season tickets to both football and basketball. It would never occur to me that they would hold seats for me, THAT I DID NOT BUY, because of my giving. Do they do that for football? And why don't they advertise it? I ask about advertising not because I think they should do it but because it sounds like a good old boy secret handshake type of deal. (Pause, take a breath, move on because this is really angering me.)
I'm fine with a lot of the very good comments and suggestions on this thread though not sure the reactions to lower bowl seating have been thought through.
For starters, I would guess most on here are season tix holders and/or Tribe Club members so struggle to see why anyone here - or those you want to bring along - would be inconvenienced.
The reason why the policy is desired is to ensure we keep our home court advantage. I can guarantee that without it, the lower bowl would have been flooded with ODU fans Saturday - sitting next you, filling the empty student section, etc. I like having visitors - I just prefer not to be seated next to them or giving them our prime seats. Let them sit in the Mezzanine. We have enforced the same policy for West side homecoming tix at Zable.
A perfect lead in for me. Let me start be stating that NO ONE on these boards dislikes odu as much as me. NO ONE. I have three season tickets five rows behind the visitors bench and have had one of them for 43 years. My wife, daughter, and I sat down in our seats and minutes later 3 odu fans parked their rear ends in the three seats next to me. How the Hell can that happen if they are holding the seats for Tribe Club members. The guy next to me thought that some of my comments were funny. Trust me, I was not there to either entertain him or converse with him,.
Congratulations on winning in spectacular fashion.
I'm glad this board is discussing the W&M Ticket Office. The Professionalism of the Security in the front lobby and the number of open ticket windows should both be improved.

Thanks for the approval on the ticket office discussion. As the former flagship of our conference, the words of ODU fans carry serious weight around here. I'll PM you if there's ever any question regarding what we should and shouldn't talk about here.
Kaplan has always been kind of a mess, especially when it comes to crowds of 3000+, but I'd rather win games here than lose to foes of yesteryear in the Ted.

I just got clarification on the Tribe Club seating. Tribe Club members can purchase single game tickets in the parquet or box sections. You have to call the ticket office, tell them you are a Tribe Club member, and then ask for tickets in a specific area. So, if you want seats near your current season tickets, call and ask for those. Or, if you don't have season tickets, but you want to sit in one of those sections, call and ask for those.
I was also told "seating options vary from game to game in the Mezzanine, Box, and Parquet sections." Hopefully, that's just a function of what seats have been sold.
Hope this helps...and I hope it gets more butts in the lower seats.
Let me know if you run into any problems with this. It should not be this hard.
And, just to restate what Tribal said earlier--those of you who passed up on our seats missed The Shot of a lifetime!

Pregame notes.
"W&M and ODU meet for the 45th-straight season dating back to 1974." How can this NOT be a rival?
Not going to let the all-time 67-21 damper the win...6 of the last 7 went to the Tribe, so hope this # continues to improve.
ODU has been a rival my entire life. VMI was too for football and then we quit playing them. Hopefully, we will continue to play ODU for many more years. Not the time or the thread, but there is no guarantee that we don't return to more regional games in both basketball and football in conferences and otherwise. Definitely would enjoy 3-4 non conference games a year with ODU, VCU, UVA, George Mason, Richmond, VT, Liberty. Frequently, we have had at least 2-3 of those games each year. It was nice to have one of those games at Kaplan.

It feels like a feud at this point moreso than a rivalry. Playing them still means something but it just isn't the same now that it's no longer a conference game.

This has been my experience. When I know I need tickets well in advance I can usually get some near me. Also, I've been able to do this at the ticket window by giving my name and my season ticket location. It does usually take about 5-10 minutes to get tickets at the window with this process, though, and I usually feel like they don't believe me until everything checks out.
Someone should be answering the phones on every gameday if this is the standard operating procedure, though. Especially on games when there's a reasonable expectation of a big crowd. If they're not going to man the phones, some kind of website needs to be in place to allow for these purchases.
Or even just make the upper sections be $10 GA, and then have someone standing away from the box where you can just pay cash and they'll give you a ticket and you can go in.

Interestingly enough, the Ticket Office Assistant Manager has been there since I worked there on Work-study almost 20 years ago..."if you wheeeeel." I hope theyve advanced since then...pre-printed tix that were made at an outside printer, rubber banded in a back room...thumbing through them to find the one you sold...which is largely documented by a paper map of the arena :/
