it's crucial that everyone understand that the MSM guys that were reporting on trump's alleged sex allegations were, and had been for years, molesting defenseless women.

Not all of us defends the sickos from both parties. Remember, I do not like Bill clinton and should have been removed from office back in the 1990s.
The media are now looking back especially with CNN. They are saying on CNN that Bill clinton would not survived on this day for the things he did.

I have never defended Bill Clinton. If you read all the posts that I have posted about him? I bashed him for the things he did. I listed him as one of the worst Presidents in the US history.

Define "run of the mill progressive."

Where I draw the line is when the conversation turns to any sort of widespread redistribution of income and/or wealth. That's the point where the "run of the mill progressive" becomes collectivist, if not full-blown socialist/communist. If you can show me a "run of the mill progressive" who does not subscribe to massive redistribution, then I will accept your definition.

I think there are a number of well-meaning folks who would consider themselves "progressive" because of a genuine desire to help their fellow human beings. I think the political leaders whom those people follow have different goals. They crave power, and they believe they can sustain it by robbing from Peter to buy Paul's vote--as long as there are enough Pauls. I don't know your motivation, I will assume it is for the best. But I don't believe for a minute that the Obamas, Pelosis, Reids, and Schumers of the world have anybody's best interests but their own in mind, and they are very adept at manipulating well-meaning people. They care about minorities on election day, and spend the rest of the time tossing them a few trinkets here and there to keep them voting democrat.

As for conservatives, the problem is one of definition. Specifically the right is defined very differently in Europe from here in America. Conservatives generally prefer the old proved ways to new theories. In Europe, the old ways were the monarchy and a strong central government, backed generally by the established church, dating back to feudalism. Classical liberals opposed that. The American Revolution was in many ways a triumph of classical liberalism over European conservatism. But those classical liberal values--small decentralized government, maximum individual freedom, including religion, and power dispersed to many institutions outside the state--formed the American establishment and became American conservatism. So a true American conservative was a European classical liberal. Modern American conservatism has incorporated two additional groups--neoconservatives and the religious right--who are more akin to European conservatism than historic American. And the left in both America and Europe has moved toward collectivism and socialism.

The Nazis would be closer to European conservatives than traditional American conservatives. Neither Nazism nor racism really fits with classical liberalism.

Just need to be clear about terminology.
