Tennessee job will be an interesting full reguardless

Latest rumor seems to be Peterson for TN. That would definitely be a win for Currie.
Peterson has family issues involving a child. He went to Washington because of this. Why would he leave that program in one of the nicest places in America? He gets these kids out of Cali. He has a pipeline now just like he did at Boise St. He will have recruiting issues in the East.
Bingo! Peterson will retire or die out of that position. Folks in the East don't realize that Washington is a destination job. And you are correct. He'd be another fish out of water over here.

Would definitely be a surprise, I was just noting the rumor (read on rockytoptalk.com). More likely is Leach, even after the loss today. But Peterson would be a better get than every name mentioned so far. So if there is a 1 percent chance, I'll hope.

RE: Dan Mullen rumors heating up
Well it's official Dan Mullen will be Florida's new head coach.

Sumlin is officially out at A&M.

Fisher should be announced as the next A&M coach at 10 AM tomorrow morning Central time.

UCF is making a last pitch to keep Frost but expect him to head to Nebraska.

With Tennessee people outside of Neyland officially protesting the possible hiring of Schiano it looks like the pickings are slim for the Vols, Noles, and Hogs at this time.

It's going to get even more interesting!

Given all these realities, if I'm Tennessee then I would take a stab at Leach.

Culturally, it would be an odd fit, but he's a heck of a coach.

What's funny is how hyper sensitive Clemson fans are! There are still some shoes to drop in this one. Somebody has to go to Florida State and off we go again. Dabo makes a little over 8 million and Tennessee has already put 10 million out there for Gruden. Auburn could easily pay 10. But, you may be fine until Saban leaves (probably 2 years). We'll see?

I've seen it many times. Every school want's to be a true believer in their head coach until he's a loser, or until he's caught doing something inappropriate, or until he is hired away. I can tell you Dabo is no different in recruiting liability than any other top coach in the Southeast. I can also tell you if Alabama calls he's gone faster than you can say scat. I don't believe he's going to be a loser, and outside of the usual recruiting ploys, I don't believe him to be of dubious character.

I'm sure he is quite comfortable at Clemson, but remember they are all very happy and comfortable until they are not. Jimbo just signed an extension until 2024 but tomorrow morning about 10 AM he's likely headed to College Station.

Ren you should be old enough by now not to be such a true believer in what is a whore's business, and that is what coaching is. The days of Howard, Jordan, Dodd, Bryant, Neyland, Royal, Dooley, and Broyles are long gone. It simply is what it is and you shouldn't be offended by the potential or reality of it, but you sure appear to be and that was not my intention because otherwise you seem to be a pretty nice guy with solid family priorities.

BTW: It is also a game the agents play every year about this time to drive up the salaries of which they make between 10 to 15% as their take. So expect Dabo's name, if not Dabo, to come up in conversations moving forward. It's all part of the game.

Not sensitive at all just poking at your earlier point that Clemson is not a “destination” on the level of pretty much any SEC school, can’t compete, etc. My question remains that if all that were true, then why isn’t his phone ringing for high profile jobs like Tennessee and Florida? My contention is only that Clemson has become a higher profile job given the recent success, new facilities and other program infrastructure. In other words, the administration has done a good job of making it a desirable job.

The Alabama job is a different animal given his ties there. I wouldn’t be at all surprised or offended if he takes that one. I wouldn’t be surprised if he stayed at Clemson either. His sons playing on the team could make it difficult to uproot. One could make a compelling list of reasons to stay. He’s on the cusp of a third straight CFP appearance, so he obviously doesn’t have to go anywhere to compete at that level.

Jimbo Fisher to A&M might have legs. Rumor has it he hasn’t got his way with the administration, a problem Swinney has not had. Fisher is also recently divorced and has a special needs child that will not live to see his 30th birthday. Given the limited amount of time left, moving away might be more than he can bear. I know I would want to take advantage of every second.

Mullen made a smart move.

If Hudspeth was at peak shape he’d be a lock.

Tubberville's son stayed and played at Auburn even after he left. Coaches usually look after each other's kids. 8.2 million is why many haven't reached out to Dabo. When you look at the buyout it's higher than most want to put into it. But with A&M they aren't only offering Jimbo more, but apparently will pay about 20 million out to Sumlin in the process. I don't know how much if any they might have to pay to F.S.U.. A&M has the potential to become a destination school. It's large, affluent, and located in a major media market which is huge for endorsements.

I'm just saying it's always a possibility. It is the nature of the business. Clemson has definitely improved its status as a program. But the intangibles are still not there, and they aren't at Auburn either. What Alabama has going for it is the same thing Notre Dame has ...history. Both of those campuses are in average size states as well, but their histories given them that larger audience that their states do not.

U.S.C. and Ohio State and Texas are also those large markets which also have history. Oklahoma falls more into the Alabama & Notre Dame category. All of them are either paying 10 million plus, or at least have the wherewith all to do so. Clemson and Auburn could pay 10 million too, but neither has the history and between the two Auburn has the most. We are both in middle sized states. We both would qualify as strong regional brands, but neither are strong national brands. Auburn has the edge there as well.

So I wasn't being flippant and I am quite aware of your program. But objectively speaking there is a difference. But, ultimately it comes down to what Dabo wants. And in his industry more is better because you never know when your string is going play out.
