The contract - I suppose - delineates Tubby’s extent over his control of his staff. Tubby clearly is more interested in the welfare of his son (naturally) than the welfare of the program, so I will be surprised if Tubby does not have complete control over staff matters. Nevertheless, it would be good information to obtain.

We need better recruiters and it is a legitimate function of the AD to obtain the best Asst Coaches available when his employee (the head coach) refuses to hire them. The employee has the option of risking his employment by not obeying the boss or resigning.

However, the contract may handcuff the AD and regular fans will either take action by not supporting the program or hoping the alpha boosters find the funds to buy Tubby out, if needed.

I honestly don't think that he makes it the length of the contract (I think he quits at some point, the end of this year or the end of the next). The program might end up losing more money keeping him around for the full term then they would cutting him loose.

No matter how much a wealthy person has, he'll want a little more. So you really think Tubby will give up $3M/yr to retire & go quietly? Won't happen. And the strategy of fans not going to games or supporting the program - that is already factored in. I heard season ticket sales are actually up slightly this season but the only folks buying are those that will buy just because the players wear a Memphis jersey & regardless of the record (some folks call them fans). Tubby is likely the coach for the next 3 seasons after this season unless Tubby gets a better job or has health issues & has to retire.

I will not cast blame or shame toward fans withholding support to effect change, if needed. I cannot join them. I do not believe the village can be saved by destroying it. However, I intend to voice my concerns to the appropriate people at the appropriate time. I realize at best it will have very little influence, but at least I will have performed my due diligence.
