RE: Why didn't CUSA schedule better for "rivalry week"?
Our conference is only 22 years old. It was formed in 1995, so we're babies on the football scene. That's hardly enough time to develop lasting rivalries unless those rivalries already existed outside of the conference between current member schools. Throw in the fact that other schools have left C-USA during those 22 years for an upgrade, and it makes the rivalry situation even more difficult.
The only G5 conference younger than ours is the Mountain West, formed in 1999, and they're hardly a blip on the football rivalry radar either. For what it's worth, C-USA has tried to do their best given our circumstances to foster some rivalries, with the Texas teams and LA Tech in one division, and with WKU, MTSU together in the other division, as well as putting the F_U's together in the East in the hope that something will develop out of that. Forgive me btw if I missed someone. The Big 12 was formed in 1996, so they're also a year younger, but they have that little P5 thing to their advantage, and many of those schools have been together since the SWC days anyway.
It's real easy for us to criticize though, but a much more difficult matter altogether for a conference as new as ours to live up to the expectations we hold for it, and I think that some of those who are quick to criticize may not be cognizant of the hurdles there are to overcome. If this year's Rivalry Week schedule didn't quite pan out as some of us might have hoped, maybe there's a reason for that also. Maybe we were hoping that our rivals playing each other in a different week would be better for our ratings because we wouldn't therefore have to compete with everyone else's rivalries the same week. Or maybe it just didn't work out right for us schedule-wise.
That said, I'm also not a fan of our current commissioner, and feel we can only make so much progress from this point forward under her leadership.

I don’t think there are really any rivalries that are that great in CUSA. I’m happy to be playing USM this week. If not them then I’d prefer UAB.

The point is the biggest rivalry games take place from middle of October on
Yea like all those SEC vs 1-AA rivalry games they play every year late in the season.

We have lots of stability.
No new teams messing up our image.
Lots of history and tradition to pride ourselves on.
Id hate to not have one actual rivalry game in the entire conference...
I still hate Toledo & Miami & UCF & WVU more than all CUSA schools combined.

they are spread out because having it this week would kill attendance. uab is going up against the Alabama Auburn name with national championship implications. casual fans are not going to cusa games this week. not having all our biggest games this week means our commissioner knows what she is doing

We take it very seriously when we play the FIU kittens from down south. They are our largest rivalry but we do need a Schnelly related rivalry with UM.
