Texas A&M plans to fire Kevin Sumlin after LSU game
Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin will be fired following the Aggies' regular-season finale at LSU on Saturday night, multiple people with knowledge of the situation said.

Sumlin is expected to be dismissed in the day or days following the A&M game against the Tigers. The Aggies are a double-digit underdog to the Tigers, and an A&M victory wouldn't save his job at this point, the sources said.

I am Jack's Complete Lack of Surprise if this is how it goes down

Honestly the whole situation reminds me so much of Dennis Franchiones last year as HC. When he started off that year with the embarrassing loss to Miami you just kinda knew he wasn't going to survive that season and even beating UT on Thankgiving didnt save him.

Why? Less money in his pocket if he resigns

If A&M fires him, he gets the buyout.

If he resigns, he doesn’t get the buyout.

Plus he can collect unemployment. 03-wink

Doubt it. His job is too cushy. He has a guaranteed $40M buyout thru 2025 if FSU fires him. Even in '22 it will still be a $20M buyout. He plays in a much easier divison and conference, the path to the playoff that much easier. FSU's recruiting is much better and much easier than is A&M. It's a job downgrade.

If A&M wants to throw money at him, I think it would take at least high-$9 to $10M. The job security now, vs $2M or 3M per extra per year, competing in the brutal SEC West with high expectations of beating Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, and LSU consistently else you're out in year 4, maybe earlier if you struggle.

FSU will up his money, as they do every year, and he'll stay.

More than likely (groan) Chad Morris of SMU gets the job.

Finally, maybe he will crawl back to Houston after we let Major go after next year!

He’s more of a Texas Tech level. A&M friends say Chad is in their tier 3 list

What I've heard so far:

There is still a strong pro Morris's contingent of the Dallas Big Money Ags but CM hasn't had a "wow" enough season this year to convince the rest of the BMAs that he is "the guy"

Nobody really thinks Jimbo is the guy

Fun rumor I personally hope is true: this is being done to give us a chance to pitch to Chip Kelley before he officially commits to UF or UCLA

Has he recruited the Texas high schools often before.

Maybe to South Main Street instead? Not a bad scenario where Kevin Sumlin strikes a deal to come to Rice, his buddy David Bailiff stays on in some way in his final contract year, and Rice even kicks in some funds if the Aggies agree to play a future game at Rice stadium.

For some reason TAMU believes they are a perennial top 10.

...nailed it

Their biggest enemy is themselves.

That said, Sumlin needs to go, so they can move on to the next disappointment.

Johnny Football gave them a mostly unearned ego boost. At the end of the day they're in the SEC West, it's tough to really compete with the likes of the Alabama schools especially when Mississippi State is in a golden age as the perennial good-but-not-great school taking up one of the spots towards the top of the standings.
