Must be paying him well if you convinced him to move from one of the most beautiful cities in America to the desert.

El Paso is actually pretty scenic. Certainly prettier than Houston, Denton, Ruston, Hattiesburg, Birmingham, etc.

I didbt mean el paso was an ugly shithole, i just feel like the desert is an acquired taste, especially for someone living on the ocean.

Hopefully he will right the ship by firing Floyd at the end of the season.

Wonder if he will try to hire his old football coach, current JMU coach Mike Houston.

How do UTEP fans generally feel about him? Obviously there's no way to know whether he was a good hire yet, but what's the general feeling among the fans?

Actually as a fan I would like to know too. Maybe those who live in El Paso can enlighten us.

RE: UTEP Has Hired the New AD
Based on the UTEP message boards everyone seems excited. The other candidate was Chris Park. While he may eventually move on to be a really good AD at the moment he is carrying a bad stigma. He is second in charge and while it’s not entirely his fault but the fact remains UTEP Athletics is in the dumps. Every single sport aside from maybe track and golf is doing awful.
The fanbase wanted to clean house and bring someone new from the outside. Wish has been granted. I personally like this hire. There is no need to hire from within considering the horrible conditions we’ve endured as fans the past decade.

RE: UTEP Has Hired the New AD
I agree with JCMiner that this appears to be a good hire and well received on Miner message boards. The actual proof that this is a good hire is starting soon. He has to hire a football coach, 1st order of business. We'll see how that goes. And the mbb coach situation at the end of this season is up in the air. Fund raising, getting the fan base back, a long list of things to address.

It's a move up from fcs and pay is much better. Also, if he gets the UTEP athletic department humming, that will catch the eye of a really high paying P5 school.

Besides, UTEP has built in advantages most G5 schools lack. If he succeeds at UTEP, he will get the attention of a high profile P5 school.

That's good news. UTEP football and basketball deserve better than what they've endured the past few years
