Blazer Almanac - November 22
November 22

A note about last night's loss to Buffalo. Chris Cokley's 24 points in the game makes him the 15th best scorer in UAB history. He now has 1207 career points, and moved past Reginald Turner with 1207.

UAB football
UAB football is 2-2 on this date.

1997 - 20 years ago today, the Blazers won at Arkansas State 13-7 to complete their season 5-6.

2003 - Nick Hayes kicked a 42 yard field goal with nine seconds remaining to give the Blazers a 22-19 win at South Florida, ending the Bulls hope of a bowl game. It was only the second home loss for South Florida in 25 games.

2008 - UAB lost to East Carolina 17-13 at home in Legion Field. The pPirates scored with 2:20 left in the game to give them the CUSA East division title.

2014 - in the penultimate game and last home game before UAB's football program was temporarily dismantled, the Blazers faced #18 Marshall at Legion Field in front of 28,355 fans, hoping to stave off the rumored reports of the end of the program. Marshall was undefeated and had to come from behind to win. The Thundering Herd recovered a fumble in the end zone with 8:20 to go to score the go-ahead touchdown. A 17 play drive for UAB that would have won the game ended on the 10 yard line and Marshall won 23-18.

UAB Basketball
The basketball team is 9-1 on November 22.

1991 - The only loss on this date was in 1991 when UAB opened the season in the Lobo Classic in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They lost to the first round opponent Duquesne 87-77. Elbert Rogers had 34 points, 26 in the second half, but UAB had 28 turnovers in the game.

1996 - In Murry Bartow's first game as UAB coach, the Blazers defeated Auburn 64-57.

1998 - UAB beat Tulsa 78-61. Tulsa was coached by Bill Self, in his second year.

2002 - Mike Anderson made his debut as UAB's basketball coach 15 years ago today. His first team beat Birmingham-Southern in the first ever meeting. Mo Finley scored 19 points as the Blazers won 71-53.

2006 - UAB defeated Wyoming 92-71.

2008 - UAB won at Old Dominion 77-62.

2011 - UAB beat Troy 71-59.

2013 - After losing to New Mexico in double overtime in the Charleston Classic, they defeated Nebraska in the consolation bracket 87-74.

2015 - UAB defeated Jacksonville State 61-55.

2016 - last year, the Blazers defeated George Washington 81-74 after losing to Kansas the previous day in the CBE Classic. Chris Cokley and William Lee scored 19 each.

Blazer Milestones:
It was two years ago today in 2015 that Anthony "Jack" Gordon died of a stroke. Gordon came to UAB along with Steve Mitchell and Jerome Mincy from Memphis and played on some great teams from 1982-1986. After basketball, he hit on hard times and at various times in his life, he was homeless and in and out of jail for small crimes. He is UAB's third leading rebounder of all time. RIP Big Jack.

Forgot to mention that UAB is 0-1 vs. Iowa. We faced them in the first round of the NCAA tournament in 1999 and lost 77-64

Will we get dominated by a former prospect? No idea how much time he gets on the court, stats, or even if he is still on their team. I imagine he would be a senior as well.

For us older fans who predate UAB's birth, 11/22 will first be the 1963 death of the President in Dallas.
