There are some Memphis old timers who I'm pretty sure STILL have me on ignore.

Son, you have no idea.

Don't mess with those from the 901, we take everything personally down in these parts. Don't even think about mentioning that place that begins with a N and ends with a 'ville 200 miles to the east

The Big East was already killed back in 2012.

Did you by any chance mean the Big Priest Church League?

Why would hypocritical church teams want to leave their church league to play with a bunch of heathens?

P.S. Speaking of church teams... today we played Marquette, tomorrow we play Notre Dame, the pride of the Pontiff, the most beloved of the Holy See.

Anti-Catholic bias and bigotry. Congrats !

Tough loss.

Because Catholics never show bias/bigotry...

Funny, I only see it expressed often by those with an anti-Catholic bias, not the other way around.

You GTFOH.

We'll get our **** together before St Johns. (No words in quotations necessary.)

No doubt. You're reloading, we're doing a complete rebuild.

It wasn't intended as a troll, it was a pretty accurate summary of what the C7 did to the incoming "New Big East" schools who had signed up to join a borderline-power-conference with Boise State and Louisville and "a presence" in the NYC, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Chicago, Houston and DAllas markets, which was going to lead to us getting ALL TEH MUNNAYZ.

I don't regret what we did. I'd do it again. Doesn't mean I don't feel bad for the programs who joined a league that ended up being more like the league they left than the league they thought they joined.

Quote:That's all for now. I need to attend to my wounds suffered from the biggest choke job in history against ND.

P.S. Congrats on being the highest paid mid-major league in the country.

Midmajor with national championships, biznatch. (DAng, I'm doing that thing where I'm claiming credit for conference-mates accomplishments as if my school did squat in the past 30 years. Yeah, yeah one Sweet 16--We Are St Johns that doesn't cut it).

Seriously, if all "midmajor" means is "nonfootball" then it doesn't really mean anything--if the MAC is major and the Big East is midmajor, then sure whatever.

And you may have found a playmate in TerryD. He LIKES being angry.

Not me. I am always mellow and laid back.

RE: Here’s how you kill the Big East
Quite frankly, I think the animosity between the Big East and the AAC is a complete and utter joke. I mean, I think both conferences are well served by being good. I mean for AAC fans, if the Big East wasn't good, do you think it would really help the AAC out at all? I sure don't. Those bids the Big East got, do you really think they go to the AAC? Nope. Just deeper in the P5 conferences. Same vice versa for the AAC with the Big East.

Many of the Big Pee's bids since inception have been stratospheric seeds - the seeds that normally go to BCS programs with negative conference records and mid-major programs with sterling. They are the garbage at-large bids. The AAC will be looking to grab a couple of those garbage bids for their own use in short order. Don't get me wrong; it's better to go then not to go, but 10 and 11 seeds are typically met with one-and-done experiences. They still earn a couple $M's for the appearance though.

The problem lies in the arrogance of the new Big East and their anti-football school shtick. They fail to recognize that the majority of the C7 have been irrelevant for decades. It's Nova, Xavier, Butler, and a bunch of scrubs.

I'd hardly call Georgetown irrelevant for decades. I mean they made the sweet 16 twice in the 90's and 3 times in the 00's. That's pretty relevant. Marquette has 3 sweet 16's this decade and made the final 4 last decade. Hardly irrelevant.

I think it's a joke the Big East fans what they say about the AAC just as much as I think it's a joke what AAC fans say about the Big East. The enemy isn't each other. It's the p5.

Marquette made a Final 4 appearance 14 years ago. George Mason made a Final 4 the year before Georgetown's last appearance. No one considers them relevant in today's college basketball landscape either.

Georgetown's only relevance is being known as the best upset pick in the NCAA tournament.

The new Big East is simply a fascade outside of Nova and Xavier.

They’ll get 5 bids again and Nova will be the only one that survives the first weekend. It’s all fluff.

You can be relevant without making the final 4. I mean I think Notre Dame is pretty relevant in basketball and they've not been to the final 4 since 1978.

I think the Hoyas will be back soon to being a good program. JT3 was a brutal coach I think- was there about 3-4 years too long.

Part of the problem that I think with the Big East is that they have the round robin. So you get to tourney time, and you only have like 1 or 2 sweet 16 seeds. Looking at Lunardi's most recent bracketology they have the Big East with Nova as a 1 seed and Xavier as a 4 seed. But 2 9's and a team in the PIG. A lot of that is the round robin in action. I think Big East fans are going to be alarmed(and pissed) when they see how much the 12 team set up benefits the AAC this year.

Anyways, for the AAC, these next 10 days are huge. 12 huge games by the top 7 teams. KP has the AAC going 6-6 in those 12. Just a make or break stretch for the league.

BTW Stever...

I like your take on most things. I think you're doing good work on the HolyLand board. While I agree with you that it's actually in the best interest of both leagues to succeed, the fans over there make it very hard to not root against them. I respect Nova and Georgetown. The rest...not so much.

They have a board? I bet there’s tens of people posting on it.

I generally think most new Big East fans are really insecure. Most of them are freeloaders tagging on to the success of past Big East power programs.

Creighton fans are probably the most insecure because they have literally done nothing for their new found glory, other than provide multiple embarrassing NCAA exits. They don’t realize how insecure they are because they’re too naive. It’s ironic because I bet they’re the most active in the anti-AAC initiative. Just a bad, bad case of paranoia.

RE: Here’s how you kill the Big East
I actually think the Big East teams that you think of have upped their games big time... Providence and Seton Hall(which were both pretty much putrid in the Old Big East) have really stepped it up(with PC making it 4 straight and SH twice). I mean right now only DePaul hasn't made the tourney from the Big East now.

it'll be interesting to see these next few weeks. Some great chances for both Big East and AAC to take down some P5 teams. And some great matchups between the conferences.

How about an AAC - Big Catholic challenge every year? As long as the Crosstown Shootout is separate, I like the idea.

I think we should only play another power conference in a challenge.

Um, the Big East already has that with the Big Ten. As a result, it's the Big East that has more leverage here.

So, in terms of keeping score, the Big East has a larger TV contract just based on basketball (and without even having football), a conference challenge with a P5 league, and consistently more NCAA Tournament bids.

As a result, schools like DePaul and Seton Hall make more TV money and overall conference revenue than UConn, Houston, UCF and every single other full member school in the AAC (and the entire rest of the G5, for that matter) and MANY magnitudes more than Wichita State. I'm not saying that this is fair or right, but the conference realignment game has always been about the money. Otherwise, conferences wouldn't be realigning in the first place. On that front, the supposed "Big Pee" has crushed the AAC and every single G5 league on every single objective measure that matters in conference realignment. It's actually not even close when (once again) the Big East doesn't even have football. When looking at it on a relative basis, it's about as big of a gap on only basketball revenue between the Big East and the AAC as there is between the G5 and the P5 for football. We could go on all day about how the AAC got more exposure from ESPN or that a new AAC contract will pay more money in a few years or that the Big East won't ever get that same amount in a new contract... but that's all speculation. On the actual scoreboard today, the Big East completely destroys the AAC from a financial standpoint. Fans with blind hatred toward the Big East can whine about how they don't believe it should be the case, but there's simply no comparison as to which conference won the realignment game here. Call me crazy, but the entity with BOTH much higher revenue AND much lower expenses would seem to have the preferable model.

Well. We got a DePaul fan that missed the joke.

Best do some research next time Frankie. The AAC gave UCONN back its WBB rights. That along with CFP money results in a higher pay-out than anyone in the new Big East. UCONN has a top 60 AD budget without Power contract $. As far as athletic achievement is concerned, shall we compare National Championships between the 2 conferences?

Must suck to be a Illinois/Depaul fan. That explains your want/need to tear down superior programs.
