Charles Manson dead
The most infamous criminal in American history dead at 83.
I was afraid of hippies as a little kid because of those murders.

It's interesting that he's gotten so much press, given that we've had people whose murder totals far exceed his. Most people have never even heard of the worst killer in our history, who conceivably could have been Jack the Ripper.

Just made basically the same point in another thread.

Should I be flattered or worried?

Uhh, Jack the Ripper was English history, not American.
Let me help you overcome that UAB education. The word 'conceivably' means it's within the realm of possibility. Regarding the Ripper case, it has never been solved and there are many suspects, all of whom are conceivably him. But in the case of HH Holmes there is more evidence than most.
The 'Boss' letter has always been suspicious and thought to have been written by an American. It doesn't have English nomenclature, it has Americanisms. It has always been thought the Ripper might have been a doctor and HH Holmes was a doctor. His murder MO mirrored the Ripper in many of his cases. He has been identified as leaving the US for London right before the Ripper murders and coming home right after they ended. Also, the sketch of the Ripper from eyewitnesses is damned near a mirror image of him and eyewitness testimony matches his physical description.
Here's one from forensic artist Steven Mancusi (who thinks somebody else is the Ripper, by the way)
Here's one of HH Holmes:
This is a perfect illustration of my original statement that it's 'conceivable.'
