If by great you mean Alabama level, I agree. This is a great CUSA-level team though and at this point of the season about the same level as WKU's great teams the past couple seasons.

To be fair, I think Wky of last year rolls them

Yep, our run defense and defense overall last season is way better than FAU.....FAU's defense not there, the offense is close to WKU's last season but our QB and OL was better...Your running game is better even though Wales got on a roll at the end of last season....

WKU was a top 25 caliber team. CUSA needs to have one team every year in top 25.

I bet you, if FAU runs the table the rest of the way (including the bowl game), we are ranked.

I think Kiffin has a decent shot at staying. One, because I think he personally needs to wait for a top 20 type job to open (so not Ole Piss or Piggy U). Two, Kiffin really hasn’t been that stellar of a head coach, so he needs to build a solid track record of overachievement. ****** in the NFL, very average results at Tennessee and USC (aside from the one ten-win season he had at USC). He also needs to show that he can survive a few years without totally pissing off a fan base and administration.

Coach ________ of the University of ___________ says he has no intention of leaving any time soon.

Fans of ________ are quick to say things like, "our guy is different for X,Y & Z reasons" or "he's saying the right things and that's all we can go off for now"

Fans from rest of the conference/country reassure said fans thst all coaches are the same, their guy is no different and they'll be lucky to hang onto them beyond the upcoming offseason.

Rinse and repeat.

RE: Kiffin Expects to Be at FAU Beyond 2017 Season
At some point money is going to matter. At some point the chance to have your name listed as a national champion will matter. While this livable money it's not live the rest of your life money. This is a very expensive area to live, if you are living the "Kiffin" life. I could live out my life on a Million a year and still put 1/2 of it back after taxes. You are not going to do that in a $3,000,000 home with in a short jog of the beach.

At some point the future will be the main factor but if you are going to be at a lower paying job without the chance of winning a national championship. And you are winning and happy....

this is the place that I would want to put my 1,2,3 years in at

But it really doesn't matter because Kiffin is only the Bobby Petrino and FAU has the real up and coming "star" on their sideline to take over. I think it's better for FAU and future coach if it's after next season.

This reminds me about the comments made in March of the last two basketball seasons. But, after all, we're not talking about Kermit Davis here.

I think Kiffin is going to finish this season and the entire next season in Boca. Whatever happens after that - I do not have any idea.

It's exactly the same.

I'd argue that we have far more reason to believe Kermit than anyone has to believe Kiffin, both based on who they are as people and their entirely different situations in tenure, family situation, etc etc

But sometimes, though rarely, "reasons X,Y & Z" given by the fans are actually correct.

But I don't fault any non MT fan for thinking Davis would jump at the first opportunity, betting on the coach to leave every time game result in being right more often than not.

A million a year to do what you love, in a beautiful area, around your family is a great gig. FAU isn't going to have the same pressures as a p5 school. He can dominate cusa at fau and pull in a million plus for years to come.

Like I said if he stays 2 more years and wants to stay and wants more money. I suspect FAU will at least match what USF/UCF pays or what low tier SEC programs make 2-2.5m per year. Kiffen is unique in that this possibly is his first really pleasant coaching experience and oddly enough he may not want to leap into a dumpster fire SEC program.

Personally, if I was making 1 mill a year, coaching 2 miles from the beach while having a house on the beach, I wouldn't go anywhere ever. Just win consistently down there and the money will increase just fine over time. Sheesh. No pressure and he's single.

If FAU can pay $2-2.5 million to keep him, that would elevate the entire conference and probably move FAU towards the top of expansion lists.

Whatever Kiffin! The second Tennessee or Florida comes knocking at his door, he'll leave FAU quicker than a military wife the second her husband is discharged!
It makes too much sense for him to take one of those jobs because it will put him in perfect position to troll Dick Saban.

He won't ever have to worry about Tennessee calling. Already burnt that bridge.

He's trolling Saban just fine from where he's sitting right now.

Maybe it was coach speak, and money does talk. And right if he wants a national championship and maybe to knock off saban he would have to go to a power 5.

And maybe we are drinking the koolaid, but what if? What if he wants to build a power out of FAU, what if he loves south florida (i would way rather live on the intracoastal than tuscalusa) and he is tight with his family, all are here, what if they want to stay and convinced him to stay for a bit.... there is always a what if, and we hope hope hope he does stay!

We all do that when we have a coach we want to keep...

say those very same things and only the reason change.

He's a family man
He's a country boy
Million goes farther here than there
His wife loves it here
His kids love the school they go to
His family is a hour drive away

At some point money will matter more than all of those. Because in the end your family is better off with 4.2 million a year and a guarantee 4 years (maybe longer) than 1 million or 1.5 million

The top 20 paying head coaches make over 4 million a year
The top 10 are making over 5 million
The top 5 are making 6 to 11 million a year

Plus if a coach has any drive....the chance at redemption matters
You might get the field named after you at Western or FAU or any other CUSA school....chasing that national championship will be important

It was to the father of FAU and nothing has changed since then.......

I believe FAU has their next coach already on the sidelines and a coach that will give FAU a chance to build off this year or next year. When Kiffin takes that next job.
