Thoughts?

We need to get this win for the confidence of the new starters and new players in a game with a great scorer. Looks like we are starting:

Talley, Taylor, Fornes, Bryan and Cacock.

I've expressed my desire to replace Bryan with Estime(or even Powell) and allow Cacock to play the 5 with more pressing. If we start to get behind by double digits, I hope to see McGrath adjust his gameplan and lineup away from the Cacock/Bryan combo on the floor at the same time and go 4 guard.

We need to see some success before we hit CAA play besides beating up on DII and DIII competition.

I don't think that he's going to change his plan. He looks at it more of being able to control the glass and defend inside. It would be cool to see Powell out there off the bench at some PF some because the offense looks smoother with another dribble, pass and shoot. We shall see, but I just don't see that happening.

RE: Campbell
We look better in a 4 guard set, with Bryan or Cacock as the lone big man. And McGrath seems willing to run with it.

When Bryan and Cacock are on the floor together, Bryan posts inside, forcing Cacock to set up outside. Cacock is too good in the paint to have him outside and Bryan in the post. It crowds the interior and is ust a bad set up. Also, when we get a defensive rebound, Bryan is the slowest player on the floor and is always trailing the play instead of being part of the fast break and a threat to score.

Camels shooting the lights out of it. This is the best Campbell team I've ever seen and they are feeling it right now. They must be shooting 80% and run a beautiful offense with shooters.

RE: Campbell
McGrath running the lineup I was hoping for with Talley, Taylor, Fornes, Estime and Cacock to end the game. This group looks quick and can put the ball in the basket. Now, if he'll institute the press more often we could maybe get some TO's and ratchet up the defense. Estime getting some valuable PT

Are we going to lose a 10 point lead under 1 minute left?

What a game! That guy for them hit eight 3 balls and was unreal. Some guys really stepped up for the Hawks tonight.

Good win, the Camels look solid. Burke can shoot it. Wonder what his 3 point percentage was.

Ok. Ty Taylor can play and we need him. So, we now have four solid players in Talley, Taylor, Fornes and Cacock. They should all start. Richmond may come on after time off for injury.

So, back to our original problem, who can play the 4? Elmore just had knee surgery. Estime looked like a Freshman but may improve with PT. At this point i'd go with Powell at the 4. Abandon the Cacock/Bryan combo and let Bryan come in to give him a break, he actually looked okay as the lone big man.

RE: Campbell
Taylor had a good game tonight. He's very athletic. He gets out of control at times but makes up for it most of the time. He was very good tonight. Fornes played well. Talley was off the charts. Heck, it was cool seeing Estime hustle and make a good defensive play. They played to win the game and stepped up on both ends in the last 5 minutes or so. The Camels were still scoring but the effort from UNCW was much better at the end. Oh, and that Cacok guy was pretty decent too. It is funny that Bryan played better as the lone big.

Campbell is very good this year....I was shocked at how good they looked tonight on offense and also work hard defensively. This is a big game for them to have a regional statement win but they couldn't put UNCW away. They made their run too early.

I agree that this is one of.the better Campbell team's. Still have a lot of work to do on defense but I was proud of their effort as Campbell made several runs and UNCW responded every time

RE: Campbell
Was at the game tonight, unfortunately may be one of the only ones i can get too. A few take aways. First, C.B has inherited Roy's inability to call a timeout. Campbell run from like 7 down to 8 up before he pulled the trigger on a T.O. Hope he learns form that as that will drive me bat **** crazy. That can also lose games. He also needs to learn that right now he's got 4 studs. As someone else mentioned, Talley, Fornes, CaCock and Taylor. At No point, EVER(unless up by 20+) should all 4 of those guys be out of the game. There was a point tonight during that run where they were all out. Good to see them show some gut after going down 8 and bouncing right back. They Really really need to learn to get a stop. Aside from Fornes, there really was not anyone that could get a freaking stop. Campbell had so many wide open threes it was insane. I'm pretty sure i could have stepped into many of them. I'm sure closing game will get easier as they gain some experience, but man that last minute could have been much easier! Onto the next game

RE: Campbell
I have to say, after watching the game last night i'm feeling better about this team and about Coach McGrath. He seems very willing to change his lineup and run whatever lineup works best. Started with Cacock and Bryan at the 4/5 spots, and moved to a 4 guard set most of the game with either Cacock or Bryan as the lone big man. Both seemed to perform better in that lineup. It may be a perfect solution for this team which is heavy on guards and thin in the post. He can run them together at certain points, then allow them to play as the lone big man while the other rests. I could even see Kalina coming in for a spell as the lone big man.

Although the Davidson loss felt bad, this new coach and team seem to be figuring it out. Fornes and Taylor showed they can play significant minutes, start and fill the stat sheet. With four solid starters, UNCW could be a tougher out than many expected with such a massive overhaul.

I'd still like to see us use the press in the 4 guard set to take advantage of our speed and athleticism to create some easy buckets and limit TO's. But, keeping our scoring in the 80+ range against a good looking Campbell squad was impressive.

Feeling more optimistic now.

Burk scored 33, but he didn't do much else with 1 rebound and 1 assist. There have been 41 times in the NBA since 1983-1984 when a player had at least 33 points, 0 or 1 rebound, and 0 or 1 assist. Only 5 of those times were by players who made at least 8 three-pointers like Burk did.

RE: Campbell
When you consider that the leading scorer in the nation was limited by injury and out for the last 3 minutes of the game, it makes the quality of this win seem lesser than if they had been at full strength.
