RE: Puerto Rico Tip-Off updates
Jones won't shoot 24 percent all year. Better shot selection and a better shooting percentage from him gets this team closer to where it can be offensively.

Can't shoot 20% from field. Our forwards looked lost. Tulsa will be a good mid major power, four starters back. They are very athletic.

I think their defense has been solid. They are getting a lot of steals and blocked shots. They outrebounded Tulsa. They are not turning the ball over a ton. They are sharing the basketball. They just can't hit shots.
They finally shot the ball better in the second half yesterday, just under 50%. Hopefully that breaks them out of the shooting slump they have been in against SC and the first half yesterday.
Other than that, I think the effort is there. They are hustling and not getting beat to every loose ball. You all may not agree with me but if they shoot the ball even close to where they are capable in the 2 games this week I think they would have won both of them.
Hopefully they shoot it well tonight and keep the effort up in all the other areas of the game like they have so far and come out with a win.
I agree with this. We played fairly well but shot atrociously. We consistently missed wide open / unguarded 3's for instance. I watched both games and felt this way both times. To me, one way to gauge who is winning the defensive/rebounding/turnover battle is shot attempts. We had way more shot attempts than Tulsa. Wasn't even close as we out-O-rebounded them and forced more steals, I believe. (with 10 minutes to go, we were way ahead in those stats - unsure how final numbers looked).
Don't get me wrong, I agree that we haven't played near as well as we can or even should, but it is primarily shooting. Waning confidence with one's shooting tends to feed on itself and that's what it looks like has happened.
Just takes a couple hot shooting games in a row to turn the confidence thing around. Hoping it happens very soon.

The biggest stat that jumped out at me was the FT! Beat'n by 20 pts at the line: Tulsa 24-31; WMU 4-10. They get three times as many FT, and we only shoot 40% when we do get to the line. You're not going to win many games this way.
