NIU Reaction ...
So I again labored through watching another disappointing WMU loss to come away with some obvious observations... I made some knee jerk comments last night while watching this team shoot itself in the foot again at the most inopportune times... I swear Goddard must have tiny hands... i've never seen a more nail biting QB/Center exchange in the game... I don't think Kennoy is snapping it poorly... it just looks like Goddard has trouble keeping control of it...

Ok... I digress...

It is more than apparent that we are down to bare bones all over the field... We looked lost on defense, the OL didn't look sharp most of the second half and we seemed to get faked by the same play NIU ran over us most of the game... Just a heads up guys... they are handing it to Huff! Props to that kid for running on us... but I was going to throw something if I saw our LB'ers get sucked inside on that fake every time they kicked it out to Huff... gap integrity was not had by all thats for sure... Not sure you can put that on the coaches as it seemed like players heads were not really screwed on tight last night.

However... there were some good spots... Franklin ran his heart out until it was obvious he was gassed... Goddard started to show that arm the coaches keep alluding to and our young WR corps started actual MAKING CATCHES! Ersnberger did Ernsberger things out there again and really looks like he's raising his NFL stock... I like that we are getting some reps for the younger guys as its going to be necessary going forward... WE need to remain deep in talent if we are going to make a charge next year. Our depth this year is just too depleted to make any honest assessment of the state of the program.

Injury bug struck again as I saw Asantay Brown go out with what is probably going to be a concussion (friendly fire too... he took a huge head to head with Spillane)... Saw Curtis take a shot to the head too... he may be in the protocol this week. Even Goddard got banged up on a late hit low in the second half but gutted it out and remained in the game... The attrition this year is staggering... No way we can expect continued success when half of our team is in the med tent... I mean holy hell we are down to one RB with our backup being a kid who changed positions last week from WR... That really hurt us last night as once we lost momentum with Franklin we really didn't have a capable backup to give Jarvion some rest...

All in all I suppose it was a better showing than I expected... but still tough to take a loss late yet again... Defense just couldn't get a freaking stop at the end of the game...

GO BRONCOS!

GO BRONCOS!

The scary part is, while we return lots next year, we are losing probably 6 of our 10 best players in Chukes, Franklin, Donnie, Phillips, Brown, and Spillane. I know we have depth (when healthy), in those areas, but there is drop off.

Where would we be without them? I just hate the lack of fire and attitude with this team. I know they are tired and beat up, but they seem to finish so poorly and look unmotivated.

When the stands are empty, they seem to lose that fire. Akron, Central, and NIU, I failed to see the fire from these guys.
