They have to go through the motions. They painted themselves into a corner with him.

He won't win there. I don't see why he would leave a cushy job where he works 15 Monday's a year to go get bitched at for not beating Alabama, Florida and Georgia. I know that's not all he works, but I'm just saying.

Every time they have a coaching search his name comes up. And every time he tells them no. It will be no different this time.

Cooter is probably a good football coach, albeit an NFL one. I'm not sure the Vols want someone who was arrested for climbing in through a window and getting in bed with a woman in her own apartment. Then again, maybe they might.

Only if it was his sister.

You know how much has changed since then? He's gonna say hey to a high school junior during the wrong week of the year, get slapped with an infraction and realize how screwed he is.

You can either coach...or not.
How long someone has not coached for means absolutely nothing. I'll admit there isn't a huge precedent...but, a couple of case(s) in point:
Dick Vermeil
Hubie Brown
Jim Calhoun
Joe Gibbs

I will be shocked if UT-K hires Norvell because they want to win the press conference.

They would never take a coach from Memphis. Sexton is going to use it for a bidding war with Florida, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and whoever else is needing a coach.

Why would they be that snobby?
It worked out okay for Virginia Tech...

03-thumbsup

I have heard Fuente mentioned rather highly. Norvell has been mentioned too, but they really want a coach with P5 head coaching experience.

As they should. Norvell would be taking a HUGE risk if Tennessee is his first job.

The man can coach. He was a huge part of the success at Arizona State. When he left, he took some other bright young coaches with him.
Arizona State has not recruited as well since. Since recruiting is the lifeblood of any program...UT would be damned lucky to get him.

I don't think that ut will go the same route they have on the last two coaches. They will go big. But I am sure that Sexton has inserted Norvell's name into the mix somehow so that the Tigers will have to pony up more money.

Go over to Volnation to see what their fans think about Norvell and little ol' Memphis and then get back with us.

That's not the point. You're true in that he can coach and in everything else you said. But it's still a huge risk to take the TN job. He might do great there. But it's a high risk-high reward on both sides.

I always wondered if they caught this guy.

Maybe you have not heard...Calhoun is coaching again. Because he is still being paid by UConned, he cannot officially be called the head coach...but for all intents and purposes, he is.
He is coach a lower level D3 college team or something.
