RE: Official Game Thread: #7 Kentucky
This is one of the youngest and rawest Calipari teams: unless they're way ahead they play 8 guys, 6 freshmen and 2 sophomores

Guards:
6-5 198 R-Fr Hamidou Diallo, 28.3 min., 16.0 ppg on .450 and .333 from 3 (3-9); 3.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists
6-6 180 Fr. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, 28.7 min., 7.7 ppg on .500 and .333 from 3 (1-3), 3.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 4.0 t.o.’s, 3.0 steals
6-0 180 Fr. Quade Green, 22.7 min., 8.3 ppg on .364 and .200 from 3 (1-5), 1.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists

Forwards:
6-9 215 Fr. Kevin Knox, 36.3 min., 14.3 ppg on .389 and .357 from 3 (5-14), 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals
6-7 236 Fr. P.J. Washington, 26.0 min., 8.0 ppg on .444 and 0 3’s, .533 FT’s, 5.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 3.3 t.o.’s, 1.7 blocks
6-10 221 So. Sacha Killeya-Jones, 18.7 min., 6.0 ppg on .636 and 0 3’s, .444 FT’s, 5.0 rebounds, 1.3 blocks
6-11 240 Fr. Nick Richards, 16.7 min., 4.7 ppg on .462 and 0 3’s, 5.7 rebounds, 1.7 t.o.’s, 1.3 blocks
6-9 205 So. Wenyen Gabriel, 20.3 min., 4.0 ppg on .278 and .167 from 3 (1-6).

They’ve got length and marvelous athleticism though with at least 3 McDonald's All-Americans. Everybody rates them in the top 10. They got nipped by the 2-0 Kansas Jayhawks 65-61.
They snuck by Vermont, ranked 69th by SI and 1st in the American East, 73-69.
They beat Utah Valley State, ranked 109th (to ETSU's 110) and 2nd in the WAC by SI., 73-63.
They beat Morehead State in a down year, ranked 278th and 8th in the OVC by SI, 92-67.
Not the most overwhelming start for the young bunch. They’re pretty raw – but so are the Bucs right now. Utah Valley State and Vermont were competitive.

Only 2 guys have made more than 1 three in 3 games of trying (Diallo with 3 and Knox with 5). 11 total makes in 3 games shooting .297 from the arc. Opponents shoot .307 with 23 makes. Rebounding margin is +2.7. T.O.’s + 1.3. Average 7.3 blocks and hold opponents to .401 from the field. Not high scoring, ringing up 69 points to opponents 65.7.

Don’t know how the Bucs can hang with them if we don’t play our bigs, though. We’ll need to take a big step forward to be competitive. But again, Utah Valley State and Vermont were.

On the radio this morning Coach Forbes said that the team would return to its usual makeup with Jurkin, Armas, Harrison, etc. The small lineup that he deployed against Savannah State was just to counter what they were doing.

Good to hear! I knew that Armas just got in foul trouble, but I didn't know what the thinking was on Harrison and Jurkin.

Stub hub has reasonably priced second-level seats.

As apparently the only UK and ETSU fan here, I've been anxious about this game for months. We have tickets (upper level behind ETSU bench). I will be wearing ETSU attire though. UK has plenty of fan support, so someone has to cheer on the Bucs, right?

Kentucky is coming off three games since last Friday, compared to two for us. I hope they are worn out from Kansas last night.

Largely the same things that he said in the post game interview after the Savannah State game. Bradford needs to be more assertive in his game, but coach feels certain that will come around. Was pleased with the assists in the game especially after only 3 (shudder) in the NKU game. Payne didn't start mainly because of turnovers in the NKU game, but he had been shooting well in practice. He was pleased that the team had held Savannah State to about 30 3 point attempts when they normally shoot about 50. Mostly things along that line. I was hoping he would have said something about Edwards, but he didn't and he wasn't asked.

It's bugging me that nothing has been said, from what I can tell he is still with the team.

We don't know internal team rules. Maybe he's having academic or behavior issues that aren't able to discussed because of privacy reasons? Stuff that's not enough to dismiss from the team, but enough they aren't allowed to travel?

Maybe he has a class that he can't miss to travel? I know professors should be lenient, but maybe one isn't? Maybe an unexpected group project in a class prevented him from making the trip. I'm pretty sure they didn't come back to JC between the last two games.

They definitely did not. Flew directly that night from Cincy to Savannah. (Actually, from Cincy to Detroit, and then on to Savannah.)

Really, it could be a myriad of things. Since he's still on the roster, it also could quite possibly be a personal issue and nothing related to academics or behavior. Too early to speculate I think, although obviously I would like to hear more as well.

I really think it could easily be a travel roster limit, either NCAA- or ETSU-imposed. But I've been unable to track that down.

Only thing about that is the two walkons (Overstreet and Reppart) made the trip. If a travel limit was the case you would think the scholarship player would take precedence over the walkon.
