Jeff Long out at Arkansas...
Bielema probably right behind him. Not good for Memphis football.

I know they want Malzahn, but if he doesn't leave Auburn, Norvell is probably the favorite there.

Really hope for Norvell's sake he says no to the Vols if they get to him. The Vol fan base would see his hire as a huge let down from the names they are hoping for. Would not be a good way to take over a program with big expectations.

I agree but I was interested to see that shift. Wonder what made Vegas change it.

Most people in the Fort Smith area believe that there is no way Malzahn would come back to Arkansas, in fact he has stated as much. His wife would love to come back but Malzahn is still extremely bitter about his first go around with Arkansas... Besides, why leave a top 10 Auburn program for a complete rebuild at Arkansas.

This certainly seems to signal that Bert is out at Arkansas and they will be coach shopping in a month or so.

There are better jobs than TN. Looks like a lot of openings in P5 schools.

Arkansas should go after Les Miles if they want someone proven to be able to win the the West.

It would be BB 2.0. Arkansas will never get the recruits that LSU and Alabama get. Thus, they will never be able to lineup and play smash mouth football and win like Bert tried and like Miles did at LSU. Arkansas needs an offensive minded coach that spreads the field and uses misdirection. Basically they need a Bobby Petrino type coach. I hate to say it but Norvell would be a good fit for what they need, I just hope they go after someone like Miles, or really anyone other than Norvell.

Agree. And they are shooting high - Gruden, Mullen, Jimbo, Gundy, Cutcliffe, Brohm, Campbell. They could get a lot of guys extensions at their current gigs. UT doesn't want to have to go the G5 route again after the Butch debacle.

I agree, they would have to have a several swing and misses to start looking at candidates like Norvell.

As Wolken said, he's always 2 losses away from being fired there. BUT, this year could buy him some time depending on what he does in the Iron Bowl. If he loses the heat will get turned up again...

I really, really hope Norvell stays, but I'm sure his agent is thinking that next year's Memphis record might not be as impressive as this year's, so strike while the iron is hot.

I think I read his base is 1.8. What would you offer him realistically to stay? I'd raise him to 2.9.

That would be the only reason I see for Malzahn. It would essentially guarantee him 4-5 years in his home state. I just do not see it happening.
