Hampton Pirates - Game #2
Not trying to poopoo the MEAC, but it definitely raises Hamptons profile in both football and basketball. Good for them.

Would have loved to bring them into the CAA...

Can't say enough about Knight's free throw shooting. Glad to get the win, we'll need to play at a higher level at UCF on Saturday.

How long before Howard tries to follow? With a resurgent football team under Mike London, a higher Basketball and academic profile than the other HBCUs, Id expect them to also align under another conference.

Ha! I've wondered that on more than one occasion. 03-confused

Truth is, a lot of people will just click on the last page of the thread, instead of the last page they actually read.

I am taking that, in this case, TP2 just didn't see a separate thread about the Hampton news, decided that the Hampton Game thread was the place to put it and didn't read the previous couple pages before posting.

It happens.

Committed a foul within 10 seconds of being on the floor. Feet too slow to stay with a driving guard down the lane, on 2 occasions. Shaver didn't even bother putting him in during the second half when Knight needed a breather, opting to go with no one in the middle... which made our weaving offense look bizarre with the entire paint clear. Perhaps Harrison will be of more use against an opponent with a similarly sized big man down low, such as Hofstra.

Yeah, his main talent seems to be size. Did have one nice layup, but not a particularly versatile player.

Hampton in CAA? What do we have in common with them other than they are in Hampton Roads?

Re Hampton U joining the CAA ...

Will be interesting to see if HU starts a baseball program.
Baseball is arguably the Big South's best sport and if Hampton is truly interested in being a good fit, baseball would align them very well.
HU started an NCAA lacrosse team a few years ago, which shows their willingness to expand their athletics program.

And what would Hampton bring that the CAA doesn't already have? I'm okay with the current arrangement of playing them in a bunch of sports as an OOC opponent.

What do we have in common with Towson?

CAA is just a loosely assembled league for schools who are not big enough to go to FBS. We really don't have anything in common with most CAA schools like Elon, UNCW, Stony Brook, etc. I just wished we made a jump to ACC long time ago, If Wake can manage being in ACC, why can't we?

We have a core of rivals in the CAA between UR, Delaware, JMU and Villanova. In time, I think you could add Elon as well. It's more than just a loose assembly.

Towson is probably the one school with the least linkage. I think the point is Hampton in our world would be closer to a Towson for us than a Delaware (or a possible Furman).

I like playing Hampton OOC.

Big South is a good move for them.

Am at best ambivalent about this assertion. W&M is special, but not that special. The question was posed regarding what W&M has in common with Hampton. Enrollment size is one commonality. The College’s athletic budget is closer in size to Hampton’s than to Madison’s or Delaware’s. Hampton’s SAT scores would not be an outlier in the CAA.

Proximity is undeniable. With a conference rivalry there might be ticket revenue synergies.

Regrettably one thing W&M does not have in common with Hampton is NCAA basketball tournament appearances (and victories), but presumably the College aspires to this level of success.

I credit the administration at Hampton with being proactive. Am ever hopeful that at some point in the future the administration at the College will examine its conference affiliation.

THIS....a reality check, especially the NCAA appearances (and wins) part.

I agree with your point that Hampton is being proactive and this is a good move for them.

On W&M, you seem to have some destination in mind for our sports program. Where?

The rest of your editorial seems to mock others of some attitude while you have no problem with an accusing attitude yourself. Most here do think W&M is a special place - DUH - it's a W&M board.
