Petey Sessoms Jersey in the rafters please
Dear Wood Selig. It is way past time to see Petey Sessom's jersey hanging from the rafters. He surely deserves to be hanging with the best ODU players ever.

Thank you.

Thank you.

I think he was inducted into the ODU HOF in 2004

Correct.

But I think Mac wants his jersey retired. Currently that list includes Leo Anthony, Joel Copeland, Kenny Gattison, Dave Twardzik, Wilson Washington, Mark West, Odell Hodge and Kent Bazemore.

I understand it needs to be a very exclusive and rarely awarded honor, but in my opinion Sessoms and Loughton should be in the rafters. Possibly Freeman at some point too.

I agree with Sessoms and Loughton, but probably not Freeman. He was only here 2 years.

Big blue makes a great point. I notice Baze got his jersey hung up in the rafters right after he signed a $70 mil contract. I'm sure that had nothing to do with anything right? Sessom's was a stud from the very start. Clutch, big time money player.

I'm not a fan of retired numbers. But I'm a fan of their jersey hanging in the rafters. Anyone in the ODU Hall of Fame should have their jersey hanging in the rafters. Retired numbers create a separate level that is unnecessary.
I hope football never starts retiring numbers.

I'm with you on retiring numbers. It should be very limited if at all. Regarding football, I don't know if other schools do it but it would be very difficult considering the number of players on the team. They already double up some numbers.

Football will probably do something like Tech does where they will retire the jersey but not the number. It’s kind of a fine line but does free stuff up.

Makes no sense for Baze to be up there and not Sessoms. It's not even close. Baze ended up being very fine but his first two years he could hardly bring the ball up the court without banging it off his leg. Sessoms was great right out of the gate and is way up on the all time scoring list. Way past time to recognize him.

A ring of honor makes sense. Hard to retire jerseys in football when you have so many on the team.

I think there's more to the reason for retiring numbers than just the play on the court. Baze was on a team that went to two NCAA Tournaments. He was the best defender in the conference. He played a role in getting UA signed with the university, which was a huge raised compared to the Nike deal (I feel like this is a bigger deal than most people outside message boards realize). And it sounds like he gave a solid donation for the practice facility. He also is constantly bringing up ODU on social media. He is an asset to the community in which he resides.

This makes the most sense, because I would have to agree with Mac that based on contributions on the floor, Sessoms was a much more valuable player for four years at ODU. Sessoms also played in 2 NCAA tournaments and 2 NITs. No disrespect to Baze, as he's obviously had the more impressive basketball career overall, including the NBA and has been a tremendous booster and ambassador for all things ODU.
