If I recall correctly, UAB beat Cincinnati by one point in 1996 at Bartow Arena. UAB hit 16 out of 17 free throws. Anthony Thomas and Jeremy Bearden and Carlos Browning and Cedric Dickson and the bunch were on that team? Am I remembering correctly, Memphis Blazer? And Archie Johnson was an assistant coach, as was Murry Bartow? And wasn't that Anthony Thomas's final game at UAB before being suspended, resigned from the team? Wasn't it Coach Bartow's final season as head coach at UAB?

Lots of questions

Let's break it down
1. We beat them by two 70-68. In 1996. In Bartow ArenA.
2. UAB was 25 of 33 from the line, hitting 21 of their last 22, in clouding 16 in a row.
3. Anthony Thomas, Jeremy Bearden, and Cedric Dixon was on the team. Carlos Browning was not.
4.Murry Bartow was an assistant. The other assistants was Joe Evans. Archie Johnson is listed in the media guide as Basketball Support Staff.
5. It was Anthony Thomas's last game. He missed the next game at Memphis after being arrested for a harassment charge against a former Lady Blazer. Bartow decided to leave Thomas home, but told some he may have overreacted. Thomas quit the team before Bartow could make a final decision. Thomas was the second leading scorer.
6. It was Gene's final season.

Say whaaaat, reminds me of another situation with a top player not too long ago.

yep, very similar. It was Thomas's second offense of striking a woman according to reports at the time. First charges were resolved through mediation and Bartow gave him a chance on the team.

Did the fan base turn on him and call Thomas a POS?

Yes, I meant Carlos to say Carlos Williams, but my part-timers typed Browning. I was one point off on the score, and the sixteen free throws stuck in my mind in reference to that game, too, but I got the part right about Genes final season and Thomas's last game and Archie on staff. Oh well. How's that for remembering a game from twenty one years ago off of the top of my semi-senile head?

On a second offense we should have if we didn't.

I wouldn't know wasn't round then. I know Davis scheduled them and won the Daytona disaster year. They couldn't stop Walter Sharpe. That's the last time I remember playing them, AK might have been their coach.

Kennedy was coach 2005-2006. We beat them 59-57 in Cincinnati that year. Beat them in Bartow the next year as well by 19. Davis was 3-1 vs. Cincinnati, but none of those Bearcat teams were very good. Their best team was during Davis's first year and the year Kennedy was the coach. They went 21-13.

Stephenson played for them in 2009-10. That was the year we beat them 64-47 at Bartow. Stephenson had 8 points. Millsap s had 22. Bearcats finished 18-14

Was this the game that Paul Delaney single-handily won after it looked like the game was over? I remember him scoring like 10 points in the last 50 seconds after Cinci kept missing free throws when we fouled to stop the clock.

Well, we beat them when they were number 1. You be pessimistic and I'll be optimistic.

For those not keeping score, we have won literally every game I've been pessimistic over this season.

Who Cincy's first game. of this tournament. Its so all different in tournaments (The Cayman Islands) have to through the record books out in tournaments like this. Well It's, the Caymans they might see that beach and forget to play Basketball. That's what happened when Romo saw Simpson before the superbowl, He saw Jessica and forgot he had a game the next day. (Only Joe can pull that off - Nameth).

No one turned on Anthony Thomas, especially the team members and staff. Yes, they were disappointed and devastated that he had no choice but to resign and or be released from the team. He was also quite remorseful. From what I recall, he and his lady friend kissed and made up and charges were eventually dropped. He was a true warrior on the court.

Way back when prior to the last game, Cronin was asked if there was any chance of the series continuing with UAB and he pretty much said no way. That they only go on the road for nationally televised games with teams from big conferences.

So Id really love it if we whipped their butts on 11/21. Or win by 1 on a last second prayer. We will need Nick playing at peak form and William taking an active interest in the game rather than just blocking shots and waiting for 3 pointers.
