Tigers vs SMU by the numbers
What we are looking at is basically which team will be able to hang onto the ball better and whose defense will be able to make key stops.

If Tigers come out thinking that this game is not important and that we have 2 chances to lock down the west. Then we could be embarrassed on our own field.

SMU is going to score most likely. Quinn will be a test for our DBs to stop and have to wonder if our all everything freshman DB will be able to handle him one on one. One missed assignment on D and it will means 6.

BUT unless we stop ourselves with dropped passes, penalties and/or turnovers then there is no way SMU should be able to slow us down much less stop us.

Team must come out with the mindset that we are in the running for hosting the AAC title game but cannot stumble once.

While Boise St is finally getting top 25 votes, it is all but certain that the winner of the AAC Championship game will be going to a New Years Day bowl against a top 10 ranked opponent. As the AAC is the top non P5 conference with three teams teams in playoff top 25 and no other G5 conference has any.

That is the carrot in front of us and we should remain focused on that goal. That means we MUST win the next three games. Two out of three is not an option.

RE: Tigers vs SMU by the numbers
Navy's DB corps held Quinn to 87 yards and 1 TD. I figure we'll do about the same. If we bring our A game on both sides of the ball, this game is over in the 3rd quarter.

BTW, I don't think our OL is getting enough credit. Sure, Ferg looks more fleet of foot than he did last season, but we are now 12th nationally in sacks allowed?!? That's very impressive.

last year Riley was sacked over 30 plus times (35? I wanna say..correct me if I am wrong).
This year...nowhere near that...he ins't having to run for his life. As such...he has had more time to throw.

You're not wrong. I was amazed Riley lasted the season, physically.

So, except kick off returns, we're very similar. SO, one could say if we return a kick, we win. But these stats are against different teams, right?

SMU played
S F Austin, North Texas, #20 at the time TCU (L), Arkansas State
then UCONN, Houston (L), Cincinnati, Tulsa, UCF (L), NAVY (L)

SMU's SOS #82
Memphis #85

So, still about the same. This looks like a very close game that the home field advantage will be very important. Everyone needs to stop by the Liberty Bowl Saturday morning. Kicking game may be the difference.

I like the cautious optimism. I have it, too. But SMU is banged up, coming off three tough weeks. Really coming off a tough month of October. But the talent difference is still there. SMU has made a nice jump, but if the Tigers are locked in, they'll win by three scores.

Coach Chad Morris of SMU made a comment on a recent TV interview after the NAVY game that Memphis had embarrassed SMU in previous games. Not sure if that means they are going to do their best to not be embarrassed or.....if...in the back of their minds...they think they could be embarrassed again.

He means we ran the score up on SMU the last two years and that he don't like it. They will be motivated. Will it matter,? We'll see.

We didn't run up the score in either 2016 or 2015.

Those games were DONE at the half.
