The offense is putrid.
My family travels to JC to attend the games. It cost $1200 for season tickets plus our hotel room and food. No more. We will not buy season tickets next year. Will only come for homecoming unless changes are made in the coaching staff.
I've read and heard from Torbush about using games as measuring sticks. Well, my measuring stick tells my the Bucs have not improved at all on the offensive side of the ball.
After Chattanooga whacks them next week, the Bucs will finish with a worst record than last year.
This poor season, IMO, could have a bad effect on recruiting and definitely damage season ticket sales.
The lack of an offense and the terrible play calling has been totally unfair to the players, the students, the fans and all the businesses that have faithfully supported the startup football team
The honeymoon is over.
I never thought I would say this, but after watching this second half of the season - you figure it out.
Everyone is calling out different pieces of the puzzle, the o-line, the O, the running game, the DBs, etc. This team has no identity. From week to week the entire system changes. I get it, you don’t want to be repetitious, but you have to minimize mistakes and capitalize on what works well – what you do best.
ETSU works well throwing the ball down field. They have gotten away from that because teams are bringing the house. So they decided to run the ball, which they are not geared for, now they are trying to pass to RBs. Its like desperation instead refining and adjusting what works best. They seem to commit to game plans and never adjust out of them when the plan doesn’t work. Yes, you need a mix, but you have to use it. It’s like they say we are going to run it this week no matter what, next week we are going to commit to the screen, then we will commit to something else, etc. etc. There is no mixing it up. I just read that the qb has passed for over 5000 yards! He is a passer, not a runner. Everyone sees that, so why are they running qb draws… their attempt at not being predictable is super predictable. Protect the kid with max protection, roll the pocket and let him do what he does best. If you want to run the qb, put in a qb that is a runner…
Now lets talk D. The papers and fans are all over the O, but the last time I checked, the O was not giving up 4 TDs through the air. Ill say it again, 4 through the air. The soft coverage zone secondary never changes. When teams get the time, they normally hit the receivers in the hands. Teams look at the tapes and see zone holes all over. Whether its 3rd and 1 or 3rd and 21, you get the same coverage over and over and over… The Bucs could have the next Deion Sanders shut down corner on the team and no one would ever know because of the scheme they play. Also, I believe the DL and LBs have more interceptions then all the CBs and Safeties combined. Why is that? Its because the Bucs soft zone coverage is built around the the prevent mentality or bend but don't break. Guess what - it be broke.
So how does this play out?
The offence has put up less and less numbers each week; particularly in the passing game. You can see receivers open down field, but the plan to push it down field is not there. Heck, these guys usually make the long catches, so why abandon it in total?. ©.
The team commits to a game plan and then never waivers from it, no matter what (O).
The offence seems to change players based on the play called instead of keeping the same players in and developing a rhythm (A).
Rushing 3 or 4 in obvious passing situations allowing opposing qbs all day to find receivers. They do this because of the zone coverages they play ©.
Did I mention Super soft coverage (H).
With the exception of three players, nobody on D brings the wood (I).
Giving up and conceding the game way too early instead of trying to find a spark. Not wanting to get blown out, gets you blown out (N).
Time management (G).
