In a conference with so few rivalries the Civil Conflict stands out with it's tradition, enmity, and name recognition.

RE: Ranking AAC Rivalries
Houston-Memphis is a rivalry only in the sense that their football games have been really close with something important on the line. If either one falls off in competitiveness, the games won't mean so much imho.

In bball, I guess Memphis-Cincinnati is sort of a rivalry, but that goes back to the Cusa days when both teams were really good and the games meant something like seeding, tourney bids, and so on at stake. Nowadays, not so much since Memphis is down.

I think Wichita-Tulsa is a true rivalry. Also UCF and USF.

RE: Ranking AAC Rivalries
There really aren't basketball rivalries in the American. Memphis v. UC has some good history and fans think of the game fondly (mostly), but it's not a rivalry. UC v. Uconn have had a lot of great battles since UC joined the Big East. Really even, fun, hard fought games. I look forward to Uconn more than anyone else on the schedule in conference (though maybe not this year), but we aren't "rivals" either.

I think Memphis/Houston has to be 1st until anyone else can get over 3million viewers for a game with no playoff or CCG implications. 07-coffee3

Many of you Shocker fans mentioned that Tulsa was a rivalry y'all were desperately looking forward to get back to.

Probably Shocker fans that are old enough to be my father. 05-stirthepot

We’ve played them the last 4 years in a row or so. Tulsa certainly did not feel any different from any other non-con game.

Agreed, as this applies to the ones listed.

Rivalries always matter mainly to the fans of the two teams, that's a given for all the ones listed. When it extends beyond those invested fans to the fans of other teams in or out of the conference, that's a big differentiation and that's where UH/Memphis is at.

1 War on I-4
2 Houston v Tulsa

That’s pretty much it

(Maybe UCF v ECU, It’s been a lot less fun recently)

That game was pretty much the CUSA east championship every year. Now, either one is in misery or the other. Yes, the fun is gone from it for now.
