Coaching changes/recruiting
Was looking at something about Butch Jones and Tennessee and they brought up a great point...

This year is the 1st year of the real early signing period of Dec 20-22.

Think about how much of a difference that makes in everything. I mean for a guy like a Frost at UCF- who will very possibly be playing in the AAC CCG on Dec 2, with a win going to a NY6 game- will he be able to stick around for the bowl game? It's going to get real uncomfortable real fast there. Will he be able to do much on 2 weeks time?

I think what this is going to do is make the coaching carousel spin way faster than normal.

Most programs looking to hire new coaches will probably have decisions made right after the end of the regular season. It's nothing new for old coaches to leave and not coach in the bowl game. Brian Kelly went to ND before the bowl game and Barry Alvarez coached Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl after Bielema stepped down,

In the case of Scott Frost for example, if a school is willing to throw $6 million a year at him and he signs, they have every right to expect him to start immediately. If he does sign with say Nebraska, waiting until UCF's season is over would just be hurting his new job so I'd think he'd be inclined to leave right away.

It's not an easy decision, but it's a matter of looking to the future and not toward the past.

I think these big name schools will go after coaches who have experience. Florida went after Mcelwaine only had one winning season as a head coach, and now he is gone fired. Frost needs 2 or more seasons to show that he can keep UCF as a strong coach.

Look at Baylor? They are a dumpster fire, and Rhule should have stayed with Temple as their coach. His scheme of plays do not fit with the Big 12.

Look at Herman at Texas? he should have stayed at Houston.

If you are a good coach that wins a lot at the G5 level? You should stay. It is not the same coaching at the P5 schools. You have less pressure to win than you do at a P5 school. Boise State and the PAC 12 seems to be equals about running plays and all that, and moving from Boise State to Washington is not a no-brainer. but moving a coach from the northeast to Texas is different.

Purdue fell into the same thing with Darrell Hazell, two years at Kent State then disaster.

I think the P5 schools fall victim of the flavor of the month problem many times. They have coaching issues and get enamored by the new hot coach who's doing wonders with University of G5. It then becomes a race to sign the flavor not so much because it's the correct fit but because it looks good to the fan-base and boosters.

I can see how coaches at the G5 level would be willing to take the chance on moving on up. The challenge of rebuilding a once proud program. The chance to test their skills at the next level. Let's be honest, I'm sure schools throwing millions per year at you helps make the decision a little easier.

I suppose it's no more a gamble that hiring the hot assistant from another P5 school with no head coaching experience or the retread on his second or third go around.

Frost and Norville will likely be in the SEC the day after the AAC championship, if not before. I doubt they will be at the bowl games. Much like Doreen missed the Orange Bowl when he took the NCSU job. Dec early signing really moves up the clock.

Recruits are very savvy these days. They are not going to sign in December with rumors about the coach leaving. If you are going to UCF because of Frost and he is rumored to be moving to Nebraska or somehwere, you are going to wait to sign.
