2-8 teams playing on the road in a tie game seldom get the benefit of officiating calls. That is the reason that I, for one, didn't have a lot to say about the call. Bad teams, simply put, never get the benefit of the doubt (even on "no doubt about it" plays).
And against the QB the caliber of Lauletta. Who will UR put out there at QB next year? Who will JMU?
JMU has a nice back up in Cole Johnson.

Who will we? This year was supposed to be the year we figured out which QB it would be going forward. Unfortunately, we don't know any more than we did in September (except the general consensus seems to be that it should not be McKee). So, so much for having a jump on JMU and UR for next year.

The reason I didn't get too upset was because Rayshawn didn't get upset. It looked like incidental contact, but Ray didn't jump and down and throw up his hands in protest, he didn't stop and talk to the official. He just looked, saw there was a flag and jogged back to the huddle. That usually tells me he knew he wasn't entirely innocent. Also, in a lot of cases, the illegal contact comes earlier than what we saw on video.
That 3rd and 17 pass defense (or lack of) was a bigger dagger to me. We stop them there, we win the game (or at least send it to OT).
Oh, well. Wait till next year...
Maybe Rayshawn deserves a little credit for being smart enough to know that histrionics against the call would serve absolutely no purpose. Once the flag is out it will not be put back and that is even more true when the official had no business throwing the flag in the first place. So not railing against the call does not necessarily mean that Rayshawn knew he was guilty; maybe it was a sign of resignation that they knew "it" was coming but just didn't know the where and when.

0-8 teams do not ever have a jump on conference foes, at least not the higher performing foes

I saw the exact same thing in real time at the game. The right tackle even paused after having done it like he just knew the flag was coming. It was an obvious call that is made 99 out of 100 times. It is only missed if you want to miss it.

FWIW, from the stands I thought the right call was holding/contact rather than PI. I didn't think the ball was catchable, but our guy was holding up the WR on his route.
I also thought the 3rd and 17 looked like a bad spot, but didn't have the benefit of a good TV angle. UR's scoreboard and reviews are on point. There were many plays (some of the goal line stops we had) where the reviews were excellent. The missed holding on Lauletta's long run was hard to take.
McKee definitely did his job to keep us in the game, but there were some crucial passes that were off target and turned 1st downs into punts. We need a QB next year that lets receivers make easy catches.

It sounds like Heusman prefers an option style of play that we should start to see going forward. Lauletta was more of a Pro syle passer that didn't really fit with what he wants to do over the long term. I don't know that UR has a clear successor in mind right now.

It was great seeing Denzel out there. He definitely had himself a game. Great way to finish out his WM career.

Game 11- Richmond
All-CAA honors. Good mix of experience and youth.
Senior left guard Connor Hilland highlighted W&M's honorees by earning first-team accolades, while senior left tackle Chris Durant, senior tight end Andrew Caskin, redshirt freshman fullback Tyler Crist, senior defensive tackle Isaiah Stephens, sophomore linebacker Nate Atkins and sophomore strong safety Corey Parker were chosen to the third team.
