Why don’t you just admit you are whatever you are for Thad or Nike anyone else who will “donate” to the “cause” of your choice. I already know how you handled Thad’s “recruiting.” How many sweat suits and shoes did you ask for? You bring your holier than thou self in here and throw cryptic posts about what Coach Smith and staff should be doing for Memphis. You are a joke.
What the hell did you EVER do for Memphis during Thad’s “recruitment” other than tell everybody who would listen what good friends you were with Andre. That and the stories of the “number of schools who were recruiting your son to play Div. 1 football.”
WhoaDang.

Please don't call a man who's won at every level for the past 40 years "Lazy". It's insulting.
The coach isn't going up against Cal. There's no reason too. We all know how this works by now.
He didn't call someone who has won at every level for the past "40" years, "Lazy". He called a guy who rode someone else's coattails and won at a high lvl many, many years ago and hasn't done anything of worth since "Lazy".
Well. I'm sure you know you're wrong.
But that doesn't matter. Y'all will just hate the next guy after Tubby.

How could I possibly be wrong? The guy has done nothing since KY. He barely made the NCAA a couple of times and was quickly sent back home. He is recruiting at the same level as he did at Minnesota and TT. Why would you expect better results here than he got at those two schools with the same talent level?
We all hoped he would come to Memphis and recruit at a higher level. He has proven he is unwilling to do that. We see the maxed out Tubby. This is as good as he will recruit and this is as good as he will coach. If we are not happy with those results today, or yesterday, why would we be happy with those results tomorrow?

The problem I have with any incident taken out of context is, it's taken out of context (context being three weeks previous to the incident)....and I wasn't there to view the actual incident.

I don't have to go anywhere with it. It speaks clearly. The person who needs to go somewhere is this staff. Go and recruit the top players this city has to offer. It is sad to have this much talent and this staff is letting coaches miles away out work them. I like Tubby but he is the face of the program and right now it does not look good. CTS must put in the work. Any coach at this program better go after the top players here or have a hell of a record recruiting nationally. The fan base deserves a true and total effort to bring the program back to competing for titles. I can understand not recruiting Lawson but the other 2 makes no sense at all.
hey good "reverend"....define "true and loyal effort".

Let me tell you what I did for Memphis, I kept my mouth shut without telling how they approached me. I did get sweatsuits and tennis shoes. The Pump brothers financed the AAU team and we did travel in the items that were given to us.

What I mean about true and loyal is that he put in the effort like other coaches. No way anyone coaching hundreds of miles away should outwork the staff for Memphis top recruits.

As for Thad recruitment I handled my part well. He qualified, stayed out of trouble, and remained humble. So thank you so much noticing. Man you must really have it in for me..lol I don't have to act Holy when it is part of me. So sorry that for relaying facts about your best friend Tubby. If I am wrong about him please show me how. I have no problem admitting I was wrong. One thing I learned about discussions is that when you cannot prove the the person being wrong then the next thing is to attack that person.

You mean these guys? Dayum. I guess that’s “true and loyal”. If you are saying Tubby should go wading in the AAU sewer then it ain’t happening, Henry. “The softest pillow to sleep with is a clear conscience”.

TG4 please tell me how I am wrong about Tubby. Number one the top players play for team Penny and Team Thad. AAU does play a big role in recruiting. What is funny is Team Penny sponsor loves the Tigers and want to see them succeed. Neither program has to be dirty to win. They stand alone in because they do not need to beg for money for the program. I know programs that will sell their soul to anyone for money to run the program, not these two. Tubby could have a tight bond with Team Penny with just a true effort. These 2 programs does not want anyone to feed their ego. Tubby approaches them with such arrogance as they need him to be successful. Al they want is for Tubby to make the effort with time an energy in recruiting their players. He could own Team Penny by just being a recruiter like other schools. Recruiting is about relationships and Tubby MUST build those.
As for the Pump brothers in 2005 they were big sponsors with a lot of grassroots programs. You had to deal with shoe company. Their are slime balls with Nike, Reebok, UA and all others.

Don’t worry. The FBI is just getting started. Plea bargains, subpoena power, forensic accountants and the threat of jail time will produce a lot more information than the NCAA enforcement staff has ever been able to get in their entire existence. Follow the money trail.
Let’s sit back and watch the fun.

Eric,
The sons were marketed, flat out. I think it happens a lot more than I realize, but Keelon had his boys, and himself, on the block, in front of God and everybody. It stank of corruption then, and it still does. Frankly, I feared an NCAA investigation when they came on board with us.
As I say, I'm sure the marketing of the kids by the parents is common; but this was a blatant, full-frontal marketing strategy that completely turned me off. I wished then, as I wish now, that we'd have passed on the entire package.
Dedric was a good player for us. NBA? I don't know, but a double-double average is quite an accomplishment. KJ might have turned out ok for us. He showed flashes here and there. I think everyone was really holding their breath, hoping we'd land Chandler. That hope has disappeared like a fart in the wind.
The way the brothers finished their time at Memphis, I'll chalk that up to poor judgment and immaturity. But you expect better from "Coach's Kids".
