But when a guy is getting paid 3mill per, this level of talent is unacceptable at Memphis. It's not the players' fault they are put in this position.

That's a very valid point.

If the kids play their best and still can't win, then the kids aren't the problem, it's the person who signed the kids.

Long year, we'll see. I am a pessimist, so I have my doubts, but it IS game number one. We can get better.

Here's hoping...

I long for the days when you would go to a game, rush home and watch it again on WKNO. I was so in love with Tiger BB. I will not be negative about the players. This is all on the admin.

Yep the players are what they are and not at fault in any way.

Support the players, they're kids and amateurs.
If they play hard and don't make dumb mistakes, they've done all that is required.

Feel free to criticize the coaches, they're adults and well paid professionals.
If we don't win in line with reasonable expectations, they are paid well and expected to perform. They have bought reasonable criticism as part of the job.

That's the rule under every coaching admin in my mind.

I agree 100%. I will never blame players. Even if the players are messing up, it is the coaches job to stop it. The coach makes the money, the coach is responsible.

Like I have said many times. If my employees screw up, the customers aren't looking at them, they are looking at me. It is my job to make sure they don't screw up and if they do, fix it.

I'm not sure that's going to satisfy anyone this year, as what we just watched WAS a reasonable expectation.

It's a fair point you raise actually. With the roster we have, I am guessing we can expect a lot of gutty, hard fought moral victories from some splendid young men, but not a lot of actual wins.

I guess my larger point, poorly stated, should have replaced the word 'reasonable' with 'historic'. In fact, I almost wrote that the first time.

Basically, Memphis' BB program should be able to recruit talent that allows us to win lots of games if the effort and execution are there. So if the talent is not there, that is already a failure of historic expectations.

Maybe that was a little more clear? Who knows, I'm not a mensa candidate 03-wink

It was boys against men tonight.
First game with new players, and the first thing they see coming down the court is the Bama defensive line under the basket.
They played hard, just not together.

I was at the gun range (date night).

Left the house folks on here were happy.

Returned, checked the score. We lost.

And that is the baseline at all times.

Lose, but lose with your boots on and with effort, and I will NOT be hard on the kids.

Some of my favorite teams have been teams that were overmatched, but played hard (the Omar Sneed teams had heart, if not enough juice).

Winning is the most fun, but losing with heart and guts can still be fun... for a season or two... after that... well, Tubby won't be here anymore if we're still discussing heart / guts in 2019/20....

Great response for some.

But just doesn't serve justice with Tubby.

This is an intentional **** fest that almost any coach in the NCAA could have easily prevented.

Don't recruit.

Your player that followed you here thinks your a dick just like the guys you need to win so they all left.

Still refuse to recruit.

Get a bunch of kids that should be playing juco or D2 ball.

Don't coach them up because you are either incapable of that or just don't feel like it.

Lose games.

Get paid.

Idiots.

I think it takes a long time to do things Tubby's way, and I'm not sure he's got that much of it. Players like we have now might be good four year guys (some of them), but Memphis fans have soured on waiting. We're going to have to way overachieve for the talent level, or the Tubby era will be short-lived. I'm still hoping he can do it, but it took me nearly five years to give up on Pastner, so . . .

For what Tubby is making this roster is 100% inexcusable.

If he wants to coach a JUCO team so badly maybe he can go coach State Tech.
