We foo them on a 3 pointer with 6 secs left. Made all 3. Now down by 1.

Two uncontested layups at the end To win the game but couldn’t bury either of them. Very, very painful last five minutes.

Basketball is fun to play but a flawed game to watch. Officials, whistles and fouls dictate every game. No exceptions. The court is too small for the players.

Annoying to gag and kick this game away.

We're better than people thought we would be for sure. Definitely should've won that game. We really do get the bottom of the pile in refs.

Letting a win get away like this will be more painful than our ass whipping in football tomorrow

Rice never trailed until 5 seconds left?

Edit: Yes, EKUs only lead was 73-72.

Bummer about the result. Hopefully the game itself was exciting enough to keep fans coming.

I don't wanna be that guy, and Rice had plenty of opportunities to win the game, but that was one of the more maddening ref performances down the stretch I've ever witnessed live. I don't know if there was one rebound in the last 6 minutes that a Rice player went up for that wasn't called a foul.

In the last 4:21 of the game Rice had 9 fouls, EKU one.

RE: MBB vs. EKU
I am so mad that I have only two comments:

(1) Team played really hard and will be competitive. This is not the disaster of Braun's next to last year (2012-13) when we got whomped by U of St Thomas

(2) The refs were gawdawful most of the game and decided to get overinvolved further and further into the game. For those who did not attend, the phantomness of the calls going both ways were absolutely horrific and they couldn't seem to get track of the makeup calls. I am perfectly happy to admit when we got outplayed by the other team or just fell apart. We have certainly seen plenty of that in the past few years, but this was a game where Rice got completely tooled by the refs.

Think it should be noted how good Pera's zone was. Mayo ate us alive, which he'll do against everybody he plays, but EKU shot 38.5% and 22.2% from 3. We stifled them for the most part.

Yup, some of those phantom fouls were not even of the tick-tack variety. The final two fouls on Austin Meyers-- and one in the first half-- were absolutely ridiculous. Two or three of the offensive fouls called on us down the stretch occurred with no contact whatsoever. Having said that, our half court offense lacked movement the final 5 - 6 minutes, and that allowed EKU to get back into the game. Also, it goes without saying, will lost the game at the free throw line.

Lots of positives, but biggest to me was Robert Martin. He played with confidence and took it strong to the hole. Just like Tech and a couple of others last year the opponent had their best free throw shooting of the year against us. Turnovers weren't that bad considering how young and inexperienced we are and how many different combinations we played. Will be fun to see how this team progresses.

I love Martin's aggressiveness, but unless he takes some jump shots the scouting report will quickly get out that all you need to do is cut off his drive to the basket. The guys who impressed me the most was Bishop Mencey (since we knew what Connor Cashaw could provide). For the first time since his Freshman year, Bishop was looking for his 3-point shot...and canning it.

RE: MBB vs. EKU
Lots of positives but a few negatives too. We're going to have to develop a go-to scorer. Cashaw, Martin and Adams (and maybe Mency) definitely all had moments tonight but Martin was the only guy in the last couple of minutes who looked comfortable with the ball. It's a young squad (3 sophomores, 1 junior and 1 senior starter) so that's understandable.

We make our free throws early and it doesn't come down to the refs at the end. We did make free throws late but not many baskets down the stretch. Losing a game like this in conference would be a lot harder to take than tonight.

I think everyone there tonight will come back. The basketball team is certainly ions more fun to watch than football this season.

We need to give Lapray more minutes. He wasn't making his shots tonight but they weren't missing by much. We'll need his outside shooting this season. I hope Harrison can shake out of his defensive funk because I still think he can be a factor. And I think Hunter will get more minutes as the season goes on.
