RE: Memphis vs Alabama tonight on CBS-SN
Calipari struggled for his first 5 years to get us back to being decent. The end of Finch's years and Tic Price were not good. But they didn't cheat.

Calipari obviously did, and in his last 4 years, we were national contenders. E8, E8, F2, S16 (and Cal tanked his last game to go to UK).

Then Pastner came in, did well recruiting, did okay his first 5 seasons, but couldn't really coach or manage players, and drove the program completely into the ground his last 2 years. We didn't cheat much then, and JP probably wasn't aware of it.

Then we started pushing for the Big 12, and when we pushed out Pastner, we wanted to hire someone completely clean. Tubby was maybe the best choice available to meet that criteria. We also completely put the kabosh on breaking any NCAA rules.

Not saying that's the only factor of course, and it can be done. I don't think Marshall or Cronin cheat, and they have by far the best 2 teams right now.

But it takes a special coach and a lot of time. Even if Tubby is successful, he will retire soon, assuming we don't fire him.

Best scenario is, IMO, if we happen to finish around 15-16, Tubby will likely be fired, and we could hire a hot young coach, like we did in FB twice now, he generates some excitement, and we take advantage of that 2019 class coming out of the city of Memphis.

But either way, our admin is committed to being successful in both sports, and we will get back there sooner or later.

I got one do not doubt you will be back. You will be a tough and dangerous "out" this year, especially at home. You have some talent on your team that should not be taken lightly.

I think we are better than last year, but we have a completely new team, with 8 new guys who will get some PT, and it will take some time to get our act together. Not sure how that will translate to Ws and Ls.

We are still missing a true PG, and anybody to shoot 3s. But we could have a good game, and give a few better teams some trouble at home.
