NCAA South Central Regionals - Cross Country
Friday morning, Texas A&M hosts the NCAA South Central Regionals at the Watts Course at the TAMU Equestrian Center. Women race a 6K at 9:15, with the men's 10K at 10:15.

The top 2 teams in each race automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships, along with the top 4 runners NOT affiliated with qualifying teams.

The men's race looks to be a toss-up between Arkansas and Texas. I favor Arkansas, but only because of an edge in experience. Arkansas will win the women's competition - easily. I'm thinking that Abilene Christian will finish in 2nd, ahead of Texas.

Rice men could finish, realistically, anywhere from 5-7, but I'll be optimistic and say 5th, with Texas A&M, Lamar and McNeese ahead, in addition to the automatic qualifiers.

Our women are a year away, as this is a rebuilding campaign with underclassmen and without star (redshirt) Abigail Cartwright. I am going to say 9th for our women.

Does anyone have a chance for a top 4 runner qualification? I think we had 1 woman last year.

Rice's top finisher was Khayla Patel in the 19th spot. Not enough to be in the Top 4 outside of the top 2 teams.

Trying to get an update after 9100, but no dice - only that Landa was 30th.

Too bad schools don’t organize all sport championships by region instead of cartel (err conference.) You play those in your region for a berth to the NCAA championship in each sport.
