Didn't they make a new rule saying 2 teams from the same conferecene can't be on the same side of the bracket? If so have to move SDSU to #4 or #5.

Nah, I'm pretty sure that's not a rule. Besides, what would they do if there were 3 seeded teams from the same conference?

Here is the wording from the NCAA handbook ...

Selection Process
The NCAA Division I Football Championship provides for a field of 24 teams to compete in a single elimination tournament. Of the 24 teams, 10 conference champions will receive automatic qualifications with the remaining best 10 teams being selected on an at-large basis by the Division I Football Championship Committee. The top eight teams in the 24-team bracket for the championship are seeded and receive First Round byes. Team pairings are determined according to geographical proximity. Teams from the same conference will not be paired for First Round games or for Second Round games when both teams are playing their first games of the championship (except for teams from the same conference that did not play against each other during the regular season; such teams may play each other in the first and second round).

Right, I saw this when posted earlier. It doesn't say anything about not being on the same side of the bracket - it just refers to first and second round games. Also, as I had mentioned when I saw this earlier, this provision no longer makes any sense - it's not possible for two second round opponents to each be playing their first game. This is a provision that they forgot to delete from back when there were 12 teams with first round byes. In my opinion.

Sure, it is possible. The top 8 seeds all will be playing their first game in the second round against someone who has already played a game in the first round. It says when "both teams are playing their first games".

How can both teams be playing their first game when one team "has already played a game in the first round" ??

Isn’t this rule/phrasing the same as last year?
Our first playoff game last year was UNH, so this only applies to MVFC?

Pretty sure all the seeds are determined first, and the rule only applies to the first round regional games.

We likely get the winner of Stony Brook/(opponent) on Dec 2nd IMO (or UNH as per tradition). Personally, I hope UDel is on the other side of the bracket as they are the CAA team I would least-like to see again

Nope, apparently its a new rule. OldDuke had quoted it on the 1st page of this thread. I found a link for it.
Quote:If two teams from the same conference are seeded, the selection committee is charged with placing them on opposite sides of the bracket, even if it means changing seed lines. The new rankings reflected that policy,
http://www.espn.com/espn/wire?section=ncf&id=21356810

So unless that's fake news,, that means no NDSU/SDSU #4 & #5, or JMU #1 & SBU #8..

There’s nothing in writing I see about this in otherwise detailed pairing instructions laid out in the championship manual:
http://www.ncaa.org/sites/default/files/....pdf#page9

So, is this a late amendment not captured in the manual? Or did ESPN misread the instructions? Hmmm

+1, would love the No Bowls bracket for many different reasons. I kind of don't want to have to worry about Stony Brook right out of the gate, they are good.

See page 13 of the NCAA manual. Looks like they did some editing after STATS published what I had copied and pasted earlier ...

Teams from the same conference will not be paired for first-round games (except for teams from the same conference that did not play against each other during the regular season; such teams may play each other in the first round).

A couple other bracket predictions:
Hero Sports: https://m.herosports.com/fcs/football-fc...-2017-ajaj

College Sports Madness: http://www.collegesportsmadness.com/fcs-...acketology

All the bracketologists in the media seem to give NDSU the #2 seed, but Polls, and the last committee ranking suggest they could fail to #4

Seeding of NDSU/SDSU, and the #8 seed will be interesting. Also College Sports Madness thinks UD will get left out, but has UNH in. That would ruffle some chicken feathers.

why not WIU? Won at Northern Arizona, destroyed FBS Coastal, won at Northern Iowa, won at Illinois St. Strangely, they've fared worse at home (maybe its the 3,500 crowds) losing to South Dakota, NDSU and SDSU.

won't find a better SOS than theres.

I agree. They’re the toughest defense we faced all season and held us to the fewest offensive points.

3 FCS losses though. SUU and SB have strong arguments with only 1 FCS loss, and both played much stronger FBS teams. Versus also says they both have a better SoS than WIU (probably the FBS games help).
