RE: UD unveils renderings for upgraded stadium & new athletic support center
To be fair, I believe UD stadium has steeper seating angles than what current ADA standards would permit, which gives them seating “closer” to the field. In theory, if they ever fill it with fans who can yell again, it might be a bit louder.

That is about the ONLY thing I would say is a redeeming value of keeping the old stands. And it’s only a theoretical advantage, in practice our “erector set” can get pretty darn loud if we start spawning more stompers :)

Perhaps that has value, but also the steepness of the stands is probably a liability with the age group of their fans... :)

I'd rather have our team and their stadium than vice-versa.

And Delaware fans really shouldn't make redneck jokes. Delaware is the blurry line where poor white southern trash meets New Jersey. It's not pretty.

Per this press conference (around 26:30 mark), UD is tearing down their home side and rebuilding to include the new press box, luxury seating and athletic support facility.

They already have raised 48 of the 60 million needed. I always laughed when I would hear about $ issues at UD. They have deep pockets and the ability to mine their sources repeatedly.

is it possible this is a reason they don't want to teardown/rebuild? because then they'd have to comply with ADA on the steepness? I have no idea how that stuff works, this just seems like a ton of money for something far less nice than what we have.

This was one reason UD fans were giving for not wanting to tear down, but now that it appears that they actually will be tearing down that side, most of them seem to be saying “newer is better”, “we won’t have to sit on each other’s laps”, etc. Only a few of them are hanging onto the “preserve Wriggley field” mentality.

Really think they are just trying to be happy with what they are getting, and spin it as a positive either way. Certainly it will be an improvement over what they have. The APC/field house improvements look bigger in some ways than the stadium itself, but they also are talking about a phase 2/3.
