Next nice article about Tubby will be when he takes Tigers to the dance and break the record.

This is a good article about Tubby and yet the thread gets ruined because of the hate Tubby crowd. As if we needed another tear down Tubby thread.

It was a good article. I enjoyed reading about Tubby's formative experiences.

Uncanny the consistency with which you defend those who denigrate our coach. But entirely inconsistent with being a fan who supports the program.

It is ironic. We are all Tiger fans here.

Part of that is that you are so easy to troll.

I like Tubby. I think he's a good man and a great coach. He's just a poor fit for us as a basketball coach. He would be better off at a school that has lower expectations. The knock on Tubby has always been that he doesn't recruit. So maybe if he comes to Memphis it will be easier for him to recruit. Well that's not happening. Right now we have a team with low to mid-level D1 talent. Tubby will no doubt coach them up but the problem is there isn't a very high ceiling. He has worse talent than when he started here. He has worse talent than he had a Minnesota, maybe worse talent than at Texas Tech. So our ceiling in the next couple of seasons is maybe 20-22 wins and an early exit in the NCAA. It's never going to go higher than that with the talent that we have. Not many here would be satisfied with that. All he had to do was to bump Saul down to DBO and hire a recruiter instead he hires a recruiter who isn't allowed to recruit. Meanwhile we have an assistant coach who is allowed to recruit but doesn't. Tubby wouldn't even have to get dirty with the recruiting. He would just have to close the deal. He won't even do that so we will continue to get low to mid-level talent.

Going to have to agree with you on that assessment. I don't plan on reading any articles about Tubby until it's about Memphis getting rid of him.

Seriously? Great fan.

I thought he would bump him down. It was a major disappointment.

Going to have to agree with you on that assessment. I don't plan on reading any articles about Tubby until it's about Memphis getting rid of him.

I'm sorry that there have to be posters like you on a Memphis Tiger message board. If I were in charge, you would both be banned forever starting now.

I think the quote from Tubby Smith's brother in the article says it all:

That’s for sure,” O’Day Smith said. “But I knew he was going to be good and he knew what he was doing because he lived and breathed basketball. He just wanted it done right and he wanted it done his way. If you do it his way, and it takes you awhile to learn that, it’ll work if you just do it the way he says to do it.”

I have a open mind, unlike some of you. I will give our coach and team my 100% support until they prove that they are not worthy of my backing.

The team and the kids are always worth backing. Sometimes they just need new leadership.

Tubby's got at least 2 years and maybe more. Nobody on this board has any say so one way or the other; opinions only.......

We could get Bruce Pearl cheap right now.

RE: Nice article on Tubby
Who ever made the fit comment is spot on. He's a good man and a good x and o coach, just can't bring in top level talent, or at least he hasn't shown the ability to do that anytime in the recent past. I'd agree with your ceiling as well. I mean how many times do you need to finish below .500 or at .500 in your most important games before people realize there's an issue.

BTW Mark G. giving Sblue a "shout out" in his tiger podcast . . . very nice haha
