I cant get past the point that it was 2011 when we last played them. It seems like yesterday. Getting old.

Thank Baby Jesus that Ronnie Murphy didn't have a 3 point line until his Senior year. Bob Wentzel's teams in the early to mid 80's were a tough out. Otis Smith & Willie McDuffie on the inside & Murphy on the outside. We didn't have anyone that could cover Murphy. It seemed like he'd drop 30 on us every time, and the rest of the Dolphins would have 30 collectively.

It was also against Jacksonville, down there, when the guy died in the stands at the end of regulation, when we hit a shot to tie it. Then Oliver banked in an outside shot at the end of OT to win it, with them still doing CPR on the guy in the stands.

RE: Know Your Enemy: The Jacksonville Dolphins
As to the mention of Artis Gilmore, he played at Jacksonville for his Junior and Senior season's in college and graduated in 1972. UAB never played against Artis. The most significant and most memorable game that was played by UAB in Jacksonville was not against the Dolphins. It was against VCU in the finals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in 1981, in which UAB lost by one point in overtime. That game was the game that convinced the NCAA Tournament selection committee to invite UAB to their very first NCAA Tournament. The announcement was made several minutes after that game, in the locker room full of devastated players who had just lost a game by one point in overtime and all suspected, at the time, that the team would not be invited to the NCAA Tournament. Coach Bartow came into the door of the locker room and said(and I remember his every word), "PACK YOUR BAGS, WE ARE GOING TO TUSCALOOSA"(the first round of the southeast regional's of the NCAA Tournament that season. The entire locker room "ERUPTED". They went from tears of crying and anguish and disappointment to cheers of joy and accomplishment in the blink of an eye. Short of the birth of my three children, that was one of the happiest moments of my life to be there along with them to celebrate such a great accomplishment. It was a very special moment. I remember it as if it was yesterday.
