Saudi Arabia & Iran on the brink?
Iran is getting a bit too big for their britches, thanks to Obama.

Can they both lose?

Seems all that money we gave them is being put to use.

Iran would have been a reasonable ally but we made some serious mistakes there and created a nightmare that we are still recovering from.

Both are big sponsors of terrorism.

Difference is Iran wasn't quite a problem in the 1970s. Had we stayed out of that country and allowed them to modernize, we would be looking at a different Middle East.

The people who were responsible for that are no longer in power.

The correct move now is to take no sides OR arm both sides and step away. Neither nation in its current form is going to be a reliable ally.

This is a fight it's been in the making for nearly 1400 years. The Sunni va Shiite split over succession after Muhammad's death in 632.

Anything that was done by the west the past 50 years, right wrong or indifferent, was done with an eye to manage that whetherby force, diplomacy or appeasement.

It's not Iran versus Saudi Arabia. It's the two biggest nation states representing Sunni versus Shiite. And one of them controls the 2 most holy sites in that religion.

It's Sunni v Shia. It's also Semitic v Aryan. And the Aryan side wants to recreate the empire it once had that stretched from Istanbul to Cairo to Aden to Kabul.

And neither of those conflicts is well understood by the US general public. Nor by the media covering the situation. Nor, it often seems, by those in our government.
