Interesting quote from the Marathon Village article...

"The story of the tenacity of Walker, now 56, has often been told: How when he began buying the Marathon site in 1986, it was a shambles, overgrown and overrun by thugs, addicts and prostitutes. A place where bloody murder was committed. A place Walker often patrolled with a handgun at his side. A place he protected and restored, bit by bit, often using salvaged resources."

Barry has completely changed the entire neighborhood along that Downtown I-40 frontage. He’s done extremely well. Great guy.

I used to go downtown when I could park parallel for free on the weekends, and the parking meters didn't cover every single parking possibility. When that changed, I stopped going downtown.

So you let a $5 or $10 parking spot keep you away from everything downtown?

There's a whole bunch of contorting and twisting and justifying I could do here, but I'm just gonna go ahead and save you and me a lot of time and say yes.

And the fact of the matter is, $5 would not, but $10 does. And part of why I don't go anymore is, I don't know which one it is before I go, $5 or $10?

For Fedexforum events and Redbird games parking on Gayoso has saved me hundreds over the years just have to get there a little early.

Two blocks from AutoZone Park North on Third at Court St, just slightly east, is a $2 lot. For the big spenders there's a $3 lot on the corner. Street parking is free after 6 and all weekend but these spots fill up fast on game night. Sit on the third base side of AZP, leave out the gate on Third, you're at your car in 5 minutes or less. I've done this for years. The only problem I've ever had is when the Joe Brown for DA headquarters was at Third & Court. Those folks had no idea what 'No, thank you" meant.
As for the Liberty Bowl events, I've used street parking off Central since the 80's. Buntyn (with light), Marianna, Josephine, Lundee. All are an easy right turn on Central after the game. Easy in and out, even with large crowds.

Life can really be easier if you're willing to work at it somewhat.

Parking east of the stadium between Southern and Central can be risky. Just ask the poor couple that got beat down last year off Midland when leaving the game. I was on Josephine the other day and saw a large crowd fighting. I pulled over and watched for a few minutes, but made sure I was far enough away to avoid stray bullets. The nicer streets in that direction have gates and limited access. I don't believe Brad Martin wants us parking on the street in front of his estate.

I agree. You hooked me up with his contact info, and I got a response in 24 hrs.......whereas that previous guy, [name redacted], never responded to 2 months worth of emails and voicemails.

Thank you sir, you are a true tiger fan.
