SoMiss @ Rice *** Pre-game Thread ***
My prediction was that we’d be 7-5 regular season. (And division champs) I’m almost certain I was the only poster on any thread predicting that many reg. season wins. I’d like to go on record as admitting I was wrong.

But to get the thread back on topic... we’re still gonna beat USM.

Yay, wine!

Hey we can still finish the season with 4(!) wins and show an upward trajectory of the program!

The sad thing is that I could legitimately see this literal statement being used as a reason for keeping Bailiff.

Not even winning 4. Just beat OD try not to get embarrassed against southern miss and UNT. Remember "we are young" "turnovers have been our Achilles heel" "these guys will get better" "just have to get through the growing pains" "a lot of injuries"
The saddest part of the UAB game was probably the fact that we were trying to run time off the clock so they couldn't score anymore. Sad sad situation. But look on the bright side..smalls really "sparked" the offense(pick 6, running back made a move to score a long run..two scores against a lame duck defense) but he really got us going. He won't be young next year he will be like a 26 year old soph and ready. Who knows maybe the future is bright and these guys know what they are doing. Curious though what happens to glaesman. "We are going to use Tyner in a myriad of ways" he's thrown one Hail Mary and signaled for the last three weeks. Statement today: "We are going to use Sam in a lot different ways with the offense" love to see those scholarships being utilized.

Crazy that you read this and he talks about our guys like they are the 27 Yankees vs. a team that got blown-out by a UAB team that did not even have a program last year. But that is why current/former players like him so much.

http://www.riceowls.com/sports/m-footbl/...17aaa.html

And Chuck has done a nice job cherry picking the best/obscure personal stats to give DB so he can try to put some lipstick on this.

It's Chuck's job to come up with lipstick for this pig. He does it about as well as can be done.

Just re-reading those quotes, they are the kinds of things you ought to be saying about where a team is around the third week of spring training. And that's appropriate, because that's about where I think this team's development is, here in week 11 of the regular season. We just don't seem to get much done in practice and preparation.

I think we have guys who were better in high school than they are now. Maybe even some of them against better competition. That last part was a joke. But seriously, we just don't seem to be getting any better.

We've got excuses. Lots of those. Results? That's a different story.

I remember the "glory days" of Bailiff when the Owls would be close at halftime and then see the game slip away as our opponents made halftime adjustments and we didn't. Now the game is over in the first 15 minutes and often even before that. A win these days is if we call the coin toss correctly.

Yeah but we only get to call the coin toss on the road games. Not much hope in that.

Not sure what the ABO is exactly but if it has anything to do with making excuses that are directly contradictory of the statistical facts then yes I'm a believer. As a former player I know all to well what it's like to try and make this thing work but man it seems like these guys are going out of there way to make chicken salad. Football is not that hard. Just put the best players out there and if you're Jimmies aren't as good as the other guys Joes then make a game plan that is smarter. Excuses are like....

I think OL83 might be right. And I haven't a clue what the ABO is.

It's just pretty disheartening to see our team lose so badly and not even appear to have a glimpse of hope or direction for the program. Best wishes to all...

I hope next year gives me reason to hope. This year I checked out very early to avoid heartache, frustration, disappointment, etc... while it is sad to bail on your team it has at least given me enough separation to remove the emotions of anger and bitterness and to have replaced them with futility and sorrow.

Ghost, feel free to explain the ABO if it relates to this. Otherwise, I am kind of disinterested still.

Roll Call!

I'm planning to be at the game. And I hope to make it through halftime this time.

This pretty much sums up my POV, as well...and it's the only game I've made it down for all season.

Well sir, it will likely be frowned upon to explain my facts, but here you go... It has been proposed that the decisions regarding the offense, especially at QB and who plays, have been made in an effort to tank and play the most youthful players on purpose to create a narrative to be retained by the staff....

Antarius just thinks they're completely incompetent....

He might be right...

But the ABO might be too...

This thread is hilarious...everyone is already crying in their beer and it's not even Saturday yet!

I do not have the faintest clue how the AD works, but still seems better than 50% odds that the Institute elects to go ahead and let Bailiff play out the final year in lieu of paying double salary for 2018; hard to see a money losing operation electing to take on such a big unplanned expense when there will be minimal benefits in the long run (does it really matter if a new coach is hired this year or next?). Not like we have this awesome bench of assistants that look like they are ready for the HC position, otherwise I would say chances are higher of a change this year. That doesn't prevent us from cackling like a bunch of boo birds on this board.

At some point, you would think Bailiff & Co. would circle the wagons and keep the dumb mistakes to a minimum as to improve their chances at securing their next career opportunity, even if it meant a very conservative game plan. The train of pick-6s and other turnovers in the opponents' red zone appears to be an unstoppable force at this point.

I don't think he is capable. Even the most conservative decisions seem to backfire on Bailiff (due to being an undisciplined mistake-prone team). Remember when we lined up to punt and the snap doinked off the upback? That's Bailiff-ball in a nutshell.

That's the one thing that won't happen. If you think recruiting is bad now, wait til you see the results from a guy who can't promise his recruit he'll ever actually coach him.
