ESPN Top 50 Preseason Men's Bball players
Anybody really believe that Clark isn't one of the fifty best this season?

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketb...basketball

I believe he will be.

I believe Clark, Evans, and Cumberland all have a chance to be top 50 players this season. Clark's game will always be underrated though. He doesn't put up huge numbers and he's not particularly flashy.

And Washington could conceivably lead the team in scoring.

This is bull****. My man Gary Clark is an AA in my mind. Sure he doesn't score like UK/DUK/KS/
primadonnas. He doesn't get the pub. We all know how valuable GC is!!!!!!!!!!

Clark is highly underrated. I think Cumberland is going to blow up this season.

Better that our guys earn the accolades at the end of the season.
We don't want any big heads to start the season and it never hurts to play with a chip on your shoulders rather than an inflated ego.

Agree. We don't even have any guys preseason first team all-conference. I like that. Use it to help keep focus and working hard to meet the end goals - win the conference and make the second weekend of the tourney. If they do that, I'll bet the individual accolades will be there.

Lazy list. Ayton is probably the best player in the country based on reports from preseason. Cumberlands stats from.last year might not show it, but he is definitely a top 50 player.

The thing that Gary does best, does not show up in any "stats" whatsoever -- passing out of the post.

It's time to move on from the underdog mindset. This team is legit and should act like it.

He's great at that, but I really hesitate to even label one thing Gary does best. The man makes a huge impact on pretty much every aspect of the game. Love his passing out of the post...his helpside defense is exception, but so is his on the ball (and ability to do it against multiple positions). His efficiency in the low post is great as well. He makes such an impact when he's on the court.

Mark, I agree 100%. I was just trying to point out 1 thing that players such as Gary do that never show up in a stat line. Too many people look solely at points, rebounds, assists, etc. and never take the time to understand what is actually happening on the floor. I'm glad to see that you don't follow that trend.

04-cheers

RE: ESPN Top 50 Preseason Men's Bball players
I think Gary is quietly effective and if that continues this season it bodes well for a deep run and some well deserved recognition for him. I've heard Mick say Gary does everything well but isn't a superstar in any one part of his game. Past UC teams that have made deep runs have typically had someone on the floor who could be counted on for a tough rebound, a score or free throws on a stickback attempt; a block or defensive stop that can turn a two point loss to a two point win against the best competition.

When I watch Clark I see a player with the potential to dominate like Fortson could do. I think sometimes he is too nice and needs to get a "killer" mentality.

I love Gary but no. Fortson was an unstoppable force on the blocks. When he got it down low the only question was is he only getting 2 or 3. Only Shoemaker era Bearcat to place on two all American teams not counting honorable mentions. One of two to be a two time conference player of the year.

Honestly I think he's #1 Shoemaker era Bearcat by a significant margin before you get into the Lo, Kenyon, SK debate for 2-4.

I think a lot of people either misremember or were too young to watch Danny play. While it is easy to compare Gary to Danny because it would appear they are similar in size, Fortson had a much bigger frame and was stronger than Clark (no knock on Gary, Danny was just unreal). Watch this video clip of UC playing Kansas in the 1996 Elite Eight and watch him in action.

That game really fell apart when Fortson went out.

I know that the Coaches and Players felt if the ball was passed to Fortson it was going up. He likely had 3 assists the whole year (all to himself!!!!).
