Remember Tuscaloosa? Defensive holding on the d-linemen!. A d-linemen. No less on a number that didn't exist. Still haven't ever seen that one since.

Or Calico getting raped in Knoxville and getting called for pass interference himself that negated a big play.
I was there for both. Still livid.

And negating an interception in Bama territory with that bogus holding call (number was the same as BAMA center).

This is why I have been, am now, and will always be against prostitution games. This happens all the time when we play these type of games. Personally, I don’t care how far we are in the hole financially, I would rather drop down a division than see our own fans excited to play these. It is embarrassing and bush league thinking.

No offense to USM but the SEC ALWAYS plays a bunch of 1-AAs and perceived “lower” tier games in November. It’s on purpose and calculated. While the rest of the country is playing conf schedules and beating each other’s every single SEC school gets an “easy” week and the bump in the polls that comes with the no-loss week.

So any ref scandal will go largely unnoticed as the SEC doesn’t care and will make sure nobody else will either.

The SEC knew this game would be the difference in whether or not Tennessee goes bowing. No way in HELL they were letting the vols lose that game. Thus, the power of the SEC. The SEC's cheapest bowl payout is like twice as much as CUSA's best...and ESPN wants as many SEC teams bowling as possible.

Not necessarily. We had CUSA refs at NCState with similar results. Some have speculated they were auditioning for a job with the ACC. They certainly did us no favors with similar penalty count and yards to your game for us and opposition.

How often does a G5 team has their conf refs when visiting a P5? I have no idea, curious though?

Usually when its a normal home and home. Visiting team normally brings the crew. We had cusa crew in lexington last year and in starkville in 15.
Note the belt and sec use the same assigning official. You will see some crews working belt games or sec ooc games.

Things like this is what made Marshall's game winning 120 yard drive against Clemson in Death Valley so satisfying back in 1999. When we lost to Ohio State in 2004 on a last second 55 yard FG Ohio State was out of timeouts and the refs actually stopped the clock to let them get lined up for the FG attempt.

now they pool them. before cusa it was really awful as an independent. if you beat an sec team, you beat the refs too. it was a given.

I've always said you must beat a Silver-spoon school by at least 2 touchdowns in order to win by a point.

Wasn't there a MAC school (years ago) that lost to Ohio State, after nailing an obviously good field goal (and the refs "botched" the call)

That might have been us in 2004. The refs stopped the clock to allow OSU to set up for a last second 51 yard FG, which their kicker made.

The more I think about it, the only reasonable move for Hopson was to pull the team off the field and go home. I am pretty darn sure if I had been in his shoes, that is exactly what I would have done. There just is no excuse for what that officiating crew did.

in retrospect, the non-call for blatant targeting is the one that cries out for after-the-fact justice. it was brazen. and the perpetrator was acting strangely confident (not to mention quite proud of himself) on the sideline as the officials reviewed the play -- I even commented on it in the live thread. it turns out that he probably knew something none of the rest of us did. at any rate, not calling out a head hunter when he is caught hunting heads could get someone seriously hurt, and the SEC didn't give enough of a **** to simply enforce a rule that was created solely for the sake of players' safety.

the flag for suspicion of intending to jump was just the most obvious.

irrespective, those officials should never hold kids' safety in their hands ever again.

Has your coach made any comments on the officiating since the game ?

I was thinking he should have done that during the game, but it might have voided our contract and we need that money.
